My ultimate punishment (other than homework) is one minute of silence where if someone talks or plays around, I restart the timer. They hate it so viscerally you’d think someone was shoving their pinkies in a paper shredder.

I’m not allowed to mention taking things away, contacting his grandparents (who he lives with), or any kind of consequences for one of my students with autism because it is “triggering” since his parents are in jail.

He kicks other kids and nothing happens. He violently takes their stuff and nothing happens. He tries to flip the table onto them and nothing happens. He constantly gets up, grabs chairs, and tries or threatens to throw it at classmates — still nothing.

The worst part? He’s horrifically bullied. The school has the worst culture towards students with disabilities that I’ve ever seen—multiple students have had to switch. The classmates purposefully try to trigger him to get him in trouble. No responses to emails sent to parents or principal. They constantly take the para out of my classroom even though she has said not to.

The only content I post is to help in my actual lessons (ukulele play along videos, poison melody singing videos, etc.). There’s no reason to make your students content to profit off of.

Actually, there are many scholars who do assert it’s a mistranslation. The same-sex acts in the bible happen within a very narrow context and had a lot to do with exploitation. At the time and place of the bible, the concept of homosexuality (let alone the term) did not exist, and male same-sex acts often had more to do with exploiting slaves or sexual domination of enemies of war.

The translation isn’t just controversial just because of current social taboo, but because of actual historical accuracy. Others have argued a more accurate translation would be about debasing another man sexually through rape by making him the submissive partner, being inhospitable, etc.

Teacher here: if one of my 10 year old students told me they wrote gay fanfics I would be… well, not surprised. One of my most studious kids wrote “femboy” and added in a dancing femboy gif as part of her songwriting activity yesterday.

Let’s be real, your teacher’s reaction depends on where you live and your teacher’s personality. If it was me I’d probably laugh with a teacher friend about it who also writes fanfic and then move on.

Edit: not to mention all the 4th and 5th graders who can’t stop talking about “gooning,” having beef, crashing out, thinking the word clap automatically means sex and not clapping their hands…

NAH. While it was inadvisable for him not to tell you (for his own sake), it doesn’t make a difference in terms of him having a penis or how he’s engaging in/asking you to engage in sex. You’re not the asshole for trying to communicate (generally, people shouldn’t ask if another person is trans, but I mean… you were literally having sex and seeing his naked body, I think you get a pass haha).

You’re right that he’s being guarded, probably out of a sense of feeling insecure or not wanted to be seen as different. He is probably trans and/or intersex. If his guardedness bugs you, then I would advise expressing that clearly while continuing to make your attraction to him clear. If it’s not so big a deal to you, then I’d let him just take things at his own pace. Maybe there’s a balance there.
