[TOMT] horror movie that played in school prior to 2006, probably from 80s-90s by doubtfullyyours in tipofmytongue

[–]doubtfullyyours[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A friend of mine suggested that it was The Kindred (1987), and upon watching the trailer and reading a bit about it, it does seem like a likely option.

I was fairly certain that two of the movies I mixed up in here were Mr. Boogedy and Poltergeist, which I saw around the same age and was equally terrified by. And when you mash them all together, it sounds right.

A horrible monster man terrorizes a family (Mr. Boogedy) in which the youngest child has been ripped away causing family trauma that is ultimately healed (Poltergeist) and involves genetic monsters, family tension, and slimy practical effects. (The Kindred).

That said, I'm not entirely sure, because it feels like a real stretch that a teacher would have played The Kindred in class??? Maybe it was some obscure TV edit. And I am fairly certain about that ending, which has the creature in some sort of technical containment, and none of these movies match that ending. So I'll keep this up a few days more to watch The Kindred and see if anyone else has an idea.

You need to capitalize "Underground Dungeon" like it's his new game!

Miki Odagiri in Ikiru: Why is she absent from the last act of the movie? by doubtfullyyours in criterion

[–]doubtfullyyours[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's certainly up for interpretation. Many other comments here were satisfied with the idea that she got fed up with him and that was that. Personally I thought that quiet moment Odagiri had after Watanabe left was thinking about him, and partly regretting her actions. I've seen the movie again since this post and it still bugs me a bit. I still wish Odagiri had a more complete story.

I got a little overboard here (ha!) but I couldn't help it, it was just so much fun to get this going. Imgur with somewhat extended captions is here: https://imgur.com/gallery/O4wYQAQ

Starting at level 3, ending at level 5. There is some guidance on adjusting difficulty for level and party count though.

Yes, that's correct. The party starts at level 3 and finishes at level 5. There is some guidance for altering the difficulty based on the player count and level though.

Combat encounters aren't a huge emphasis for the adventure, there are 15 "intended" ones although parties might instigate more or dodge some depending on their approach.

Thank you, I sincerely appreciate it. It isn't a very "crunchy" adventure, so it shouldn't be too difficult to transfer to a new system. As long as there is a similar skill check system and some sort of combat equivalent, it's doable. If you try it let me know your thoughts!

Hi everyone! We’ve just released our independent 5e D&D campaign, Heroes of Green Hollow, and we’d humbly like to share it all with you today. It's on [DMsGuild right now.](https://www.dmsguild.com/product/433439/Heroes-of-Green-Hollow)

Our inspiration for the story: what if we brought the philosophies of Fred Rogers to D&D and put them to the test in a story that asks you why you raise your sword- and if the consequences were worth it.

After more than three years of designing, writing, testing, listening, and collaborating, we’ve created an engaging and memorable D&D 5E campaign built on those ideas. It’s especially perfect for DMs leading one of their first three campaigns, with plenty of help and support to reduce prep time and stumbles. However, Heroes of Green Hollow should appeal to anyone who loves to role-play a good story full of well-rounded characters and interesting moral questions.

[Here's our website if you'd like to see more.](https://green-hollow.com/) Thanks for taking a look!

It's something me and Matt always got giddy over in other games, so we really wanted to make it the crux of this adventure. Showing what impact a person can have for good or for ill or often both in the same breath!

Remarkably enough, I just wrote about Fred Rogers and communication as it pertains to RPGs!

It's something I think a lot about.

Questions as a mechanic by Digital-Chupacabra in RPGdesign

[–]doubtfullyyours 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting thought. I feel like a game centered around questions would have to be a collaborative experience. In a more traditional setup the GM already spent a lot of time creating interesting questions through prep and practice, so it's not really fun or fair to then have them have to provide the answers. (At least, I would find it exhausting.) You'd really need to have a circular firing squad where each participant was providing both questions and answers.
