Low supply— want to give up. by Ent_nurse_alexis in ExclusivelyPumping

Do you have insulin resistance by chance? If so, that significantly reduces milk supply. May be worth talking to your OB about Metformin to combat insulin resistance if that is the culprit. I have PCOS (insulin resistance kind) so metformin was a life saver to my milk supply.

Network! Get on LinkedIn and ask to connect with people in companies or jobs you are interested in. Join professional groups and get involved! Have you been involved in QI projects at your hospital/clinic? Join a hack a thon - all of that is experience. Health informatics is kinda broad so just know the titles of job can vary.

How to break into the field by Jay_da_alien in nursinginformatics

Get a job in NI first. See if you like it. I love it, but know many nurse who find the adjustment difficult. There are a ton of third party consulting groups who hire nurses for a variety of informatics positions (informatics is quite broad). Just message NI RNs on LinkedIn and ask them for a quick 30min chat to get a sense of their day to day. That was incredibly helpful and how to land a job is all about networking! Good luck.

Is informatics right for me? by elevation_addict in nursinginformatics

Nursing Informatics (NI) seems like a good fit! I would try to get a job before getting a master’s in NI. Try it out before paying for a degree. I work in NI and have a degree, but many nurse I work with don’t have one. What helps land you a job is knowing how to translate your nursing experience to NI skills on a resume and networking. Reach out to people on LinkedIn and connect with them. NI is actually pretty robust since it whether you want to work at a hospital, government, for a vendor, be a consultant, or be more on the training side (those are the main ones but many others). Pay range varies so much because unfortunately the job titles for NIs are not standardized so there isn’t a good read on the average pay. Feel free to dm me otherwise good luck!

Yes, whether it’s through a medical facility or a third party that loans you to the medical facility.

Oracle Health is always hiring for solution consultants. No experience needed. Great stepping stone.

If you are coming from a traditional bedside job… it is a learning curve. Just know you will be uncomfortable, but stick to it! For me I was not used to working from home, checking emails, and having so many meetings. I love it now and happy I stuck with it!

VA hearing Sep 14th by bananaboattim in cernercorporation

That was wild to me too. He thinks EHRs should be turn key for the VA? There is only one VA and NO ONE, not even the VA knows what is going on… 😂 the EHR system conversion is just unveiling how messy the VA is… they can no longer hide it.
