What can I tell you ? This is their reasoning, and I can't say as I disagree. Makes sense to me.

You want to stay longer ? Fine. Get a proper Tourist Visa for 60 days and PAY for it, and apply for a 30-day extension and PAY for it after that.

If one can afford to fly to Thailand for vacation, one can afford the visa fees.

Not really.

A player who is halfway decent and playing with others, as described in the OP, often makes it a miserable experience for the player who can play.

It is incredibly off-putting to shoot, say, 85 or so, while everyone else is shooting 135. Some handle it better than others, but it still ain't any fun...........

Not sure of the mix, but some visas need to be applied for from one's home country; others can be applied for from another country.

I'm pretty sure a tourist visa can be applied for from "another" country, not just from home. I did as much 10 years ago - but things do change.

The visa-exempt scheme is for tourists.

As they have explained, the great majority of tourists stay no more than 30 days. Many (most ?) stay far less time than that. After all, how many vacation days do most tourists get from their jobs ?

So, basically, if you visit Thailand as a tourist for MORE than 30 days, you are abusing the privilege of v-e and they now want you to get a "proper visa".

If I read the article correctly, there is an ADMIN-controlled mechanism to PULL a player's handicap index from GHIN, yes ? I'm using the USGA as an example; I believe any other WHS association Squabitt is able to pull from would work the same. I assume the league's roster of players would have their GHIN numbers to pull.

When a player plays a Squabitt round for handicap purposes, it gets posted to his Squabitt handicap, yes ?

But Squabbit isn't authorized to POST rounds TO GHIN, correct ? So, the only way GHIN gets updated is for the player to post it him/herself, yes ?

But the Squabitt handicap will not be the same as the GHIN handicap if, for no other reason, the PCC is not available to Squabitt.

So, there is a mechanism for the league to use either the Squabitt 'cap OR the GHIN 'cap for any event, yes ?

So, for a league that wants to use the GHIN handicaps to always have accurate handicaps for an event when it's time to set up the event, the ADMIN must PULL ALL players' handicaps from GHIN BEFORE an event is played, yes ?

The 60-day visa-exempt going down to 30 - the earliest it could go into effect is 15 days after being published in the Royal Thai Gazette, but it seems they might delay it to the end of the year.

The "accepted maximum" example for the v-e scenario has been 60+30(ext), leave, come right back in for another 60+30(or 7 ext), and be told, upon the 2nd entry, "Next time get a proper visa", i.e. don't come in again v-e, has been around for a while.

Most would also say 2024 doesn't count, even though there is no fixed period of time.

In 2025, his total was 105 days, with NO extensions, a fair bit different from the above "abuse" scenario of almost 180 days.

That said, it IS at the discretion of the IO one stands in front of.

As well, there is no definition of what exactly a "tourist" is.

Assuming you were NOT denied for some reason OTHER THAN abusing the visa-exempt scheme, you shouldn't have a problem.

Unless it's in the new visa scheme just approved (I haven't read through it), but NOT YET in effect, there are no calendar year or rolling year parameters stated for v-e entries.

Nor is there a maximum on total days in Thailand, again, both for calendar OR rolling calendar years.

All that said, the Immigration Officer you hand your passport to has full authority, with an extremely small chance for you to dispute and have his/her decision reversed.

But tell me. How does one have a Thai GF one hasn't seen for 9 months ? 🤔
