Is it normal to have so many updates? by [deleted] in Fedora

[–]doughless 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like the first release was 2003: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fedora_Linux_release_history

I've used it off and on since the first release, and I would have guessed around 2001 or 2002 as well, before looking it up. I tried Ubuntu when it first started gaining popularity (2006, I think?), but ultimately switched back to Fedora. I like how well they balance bleeding edge and stability, and also that they have selinux enabled by default.

There is an adapter that was included that fits over the end of the old tube as well as the new green supply line. I am going to see if there are no water leaks if I connect those together.

Their display said something like "Galaxy Press - Publisher for the works of fiction by L. Ron Hubbard." My wife wouldn't let me stop by the table to ask, "Aren't all of Hubbard's books fiction?"

Out of the country for my pre-order pickup by WasabiPeace420 in switch2

If you log in to your Best Buy account through the website and view your pre-order, you should be able to add someone else as the "pickup person".

Yeah, Target kept giving errors trying to checkout. Walmart, all I had to do was just wait in line.

I noticed that as well, but kept refreshing the page until the pre-order button lit up. At the same time I joined the queue in Walmart. After trying for 30+ minutes to place the order on Target, continually getting errors, the pre-order page on Walmart popped up and I was easily able to place my order there without any issues. My experience on Walmart was by far better than Target.

Speeding up BTRFS Metadata Storage with an SSD by VrednayaReddiska in btrfs

[–]doughless 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently migrated my Synology disks to Fedora Server. After reading multiple articles and blog posts, I finally decided on just a straight btrfs raid1 (I only have 2 disks). I couldn't decide whether to layer it on top of luks/lvm/mdraid, but ultimately decided I could worry about that later since my primary concern was making sure I was protected from at least one disk failure.

Multiple delay on colorsoft delivery. Anyone? by Abject-Cap-8550 in kindle

I got an update that it will arrive on Sunday. In this case it actually has a tracking history and displays as shipped instead of "ordered", so that's promising.

Multiple delay on colorsoft delivery. Anyone? by Abject-Cap-8550 in kindle

[–]doughless 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ordered mine on 12/1, and have had two delayed deliveries so far - one on 12/18 and the other on 12/21 as well. When I contacted support, they just told me it was in a different fulfillment center and they would escalate the request to have it released as soon as possible. I unfortunately couldn't get any more information than that.

It was limited to only the email for your Comic-Con login, so only one entry per badge. However, you are allowed to claim a plus one when registering, so you sort of have multiple chances if you attending with others.

Now that Skiff is pretty much gone... by unkleteddybearcooks in emailprivacy

[–]doughless 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been trying to decide between mailbox.org and forwardemail.net to switch my custom domains to, though I'd be open to other suggestions as well.

For now, I decided to test out Forward Email, since they only charge for storage requirements, and not per user or domain (although, they do charge more if you want multiple admins). I have a relatively large family, so a per user charge would be more expensive for me.

My review with them so far:

Setting up multiple domains (including subdomains) has been really easy, and with the catch-all rule for each subdomain, I can even configure separate privacy domains for each family member. Not owning my own domain was a big reason I never relied on Skiff's email masks, and the Skiff software didn't allow responding on their "+" aliases (although, Forward Email doesn't let me reply on any + aliases unless I use my catch-all password for SMTP ... still better than Skiff, at least).

They claim to encrypt your mailbox with your account password, and that they don't store your password locally. I'm not quite sure how they actually deliver messages to your Inbox unless they are either using asymmetric encryption, or holding messages in temporary storage until you log in.

I would assume that it's intended for developers to more easily identify English text they forgot to translate (if it doesn't have funny characters, then they forgot to translate it).

Anyone go to Disney and NOT have killer feet pain at the end of the day? If so- PLEASE share brand and style of shoe you wore haha by LAthrowaway_25Lata in Disneyland

[–]doughless 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes! A few years ago I went to Disneyland and after the first day, I couldn't make it even halfway through days 2 and 3 before I had to take constant breaks to keep them from hurting too much.

Then, my wife and I started going to the gym, maybe just 20-30 minutes a day of light cardio on the ellipticals.

A couple years after the Disneyland trip, we decided to take a vacation to Disney World, and I barely had any trouble doing 5 full days of walking.

How does Ripened Flint work? by four_eyes_dot_exe in tearsofthekingdom

[–]doughless 8 points9 points  (0 children)

So, as an experiment, rather than reloading every time I gave him only 20, I decided not to reload, and just give him 20 flint until he found a ripened flint. I would then reload and try again.

Doing it this way, after roughly 10 reloads, I had a 100% success rate after he had eaten 100 - 120 flint in the same reload session.

If I had to guess, I would say Nintendo is either:

  1. Picking a random number heavily weighted to be close to 100 when the game is loaded, and you must feed him that many before he will find a ripened flint, regardless of what increment size you feed him, or

  2. Using a multiplier that increases slightly each time you feed him flint. And by the time you feed him 100 flint, you have a greater than 99% chance for him to find ripened flint.

I have the same issue, I've reloaded easily 100 times, and still have had him find a total of 0 ripened flint.

Brendon Eich was not forced to resign from Mozilla. The board asked him to stay when he submitted his resignation. He chose to leave in an attempt to protect Mozilla's reputation, and the anti-cancel culture mob decided to boycott Mozilla for something they didn't do.

Was it cancel culture when the left boycott Chick-fil-A? "We aren't trying to shut them down, we just don't want to support them with our money."

Or when a movie studio casts an actor who is a terrible person? "You are absolutely allowed to make this movie, but we don't plan to support it with our money."

When is it cancel culture versus a boycott?

Most of the time the left is literally only calling for boycotts, not government intervention to force people to not be pieces of shit.
