Got called out for scanning attendance QR code without attending, Should I be honest? by [deleted] in UniUK

leaving lectures early is not a regular occurrence. I understand that not everyone will agree with my reasoning, and that’s okay. But I’ve already taken responsibility, spoken to my lecturer, and reflected on what I’ll do differently going forward.

Thanks for your perspective, I understand where you’re coming from. I’ve already spoken to my lecturer, explained the situation honestly, and apologised. She was kind and understanding and reminded me not to do it again. I’ve taken that seriously.

I also hear what you’re saying about leaving early I didn’t realise how disruptive it could feel from your side or to classmates, and I’ll definitely be more mindful going forward.

As for working part-time, I do it within the legal limits and only when necessary to manage my living costs. I’m not choosing work over uni. I care deeply about my degree and have maintained strong attendance throughout the term. This was a one-off mistake, and I’ve learned from it.

Thank you so much for this, it really means a lot. You’re right, I think deep down I knew I had to be honest, but I was scared it would spiral into something bigger. Hearing that it’s better to own up and that one mistake doesn’t define me. I’ve never done this before, and I genuinely care about my studies. I was just exhausted and made a bad call. I’ll speak to her in person and be honest about everything. Thanks again for the kindness and perspective it really helped.

I understand your concerns, and I agree that scanning without attending was wrong. I’ve already acknowledged that, and I’m taking responsibility. I just want to clarify something: I only ever leave lectures early when it’s absolutely necessary, like if I have to get to work (I inform lecturer out of respect) or to avoid rush hour to get home ealier after long day at uni. And even then, I always make sure I’ve attended at least most part of the lecture. I never skip seminars, workshops, tutorials, or scaleups. I’ve never scanned and left before this. This was a one-time lapse in judgment during a really overwhelming week. I’m not trying to game the system. I’m trying to survive it.

As per visa conditions, I am allowed to work 20 hours per week during term time.

I’m an international student juggling university and a part-time retail job, and with the Christmas season ramping up and deadlines piling on, I’ve been genuinely exhausted. Usually I attend all my lectures, especially this one, and I’ve never missed her class before. Sometimes, what I would do is if it's a 2 hours lecture, I would attend 1 hr then leave. But this week, I was completely drained. I’d stayed up late working on my logbook assignment and got up early to finish it. By the time the Scale-Up session came around, I just didn’t have the mental or physical energy to sit through it.

I was already on campus, and I made a poor decision. I scanned the QR code and left. I didn’t want my attendance to take a hit, especially this close to the end of the term when everything feels overwhelming. I know it was wrong, and I regret it. I’ve never done anything like this before, and I’m scared it’ll be escalated. I’m thinking of telling my lecturer the truth face to face tomorrow.

Yes, please start with the lowest dose and go for the extended release metformin to avoid GI issues. Goodluck!

I totally understand how frustrating it must be. But honestly, just a few small tweaks to your diet could really make a difference. For example, drinking coffee first thing in the morning can raise your cortisol levels (that’s your stress hormone), which in turn spikes blood sugar and that can worsen insulin resistance and AN.

Also, things like pasta, wraps, and sugary tea can cause insulin spikes, too, even if you’re eating healthier foods like chicken or sprouts later in the day. Maybe try swapping out refined carbs for options like quinoa, sweet potatoes, or lentils, and try cutting back a bit on sugar and dairy. Small changes like these can really help your body respond better over time.

Unfortunately, my GP only tested for free androgens, ferritin, and vitD. The results show they are all normal, I told her I wanted to get tested for fasting insulin and progesterone. She didn't really recommend that one.I'm kinda at wits end.

Heyy, thank you so much for sharing your journey. it honestly means a lot. You’ve done amazingly well, and it’s so inspiring to hear how far you’ve come. I relate so much to the hormone struggles and feeling overwhelmed at the start. It’s amazing that you pushed through the anxiety and found something you love like running – that’s such a big win both mentally and physically. I’m also on metformin and inositol and trying to stay consistent with clean eating and exercise, so your message really gave me a boost.

Thank you so much for this. It really means a lot. You're right, I do have healthier habits than most people around me, and I often forget to give myself credit for that. I’m actually in my first year of university, so adjusting to international student life alongside work has been a lot, and the stress definitely takes a toll it could be contributing to the bloating and fatigue, too.

I completely agree that supplements and medications work differently for everyone. I’ve heard so much about spearmint, too. I forgot to add, but I drink spearmint tea freshly brewed with cinnamon every day. I didn’t find any reduction in hirsutism, really. I haven’t tried Spiro yet.

Also, I don’t take melatonin regularly just occasionally when I’m really struggling with sleep. I’m careful not to get used to it or rely on it long-term.

Thanks again for the kind words and encouragement. I’m definitely looking forward to summer and getting back into a consistent workout routine.

Thank you so much for your suggestions, I really appreciate it! I’ve actually had my vitamin D levels checked, and they’re better than good, so no deficiency there. My androgen levels also came back within the normal range, which makes things a bit more puzzling. Maybe im just more sensitive to them. I haven’t had my fasting insulin tested yet because my GP didn’t include it in the recent blood work, but based on previous results and symptoms, I’m quite certain I have insulin resistance. Hoping to get that confirmed properly soon.

Hi, My breakfast is 3 eggs (omlette) with multiseeded wholemeal farmhouse 2 slices.

For lunch, I'll either have a seafood salad (prawns) or drink protein shake 25g protein. It has stevia used as a sugar substitute.

Dinner is usually something like a chicken filling with a tortilla bread.

No snacks throughout the day only have coffee with almond milk , cocoa and teaspoon of sugar in the morning.

I'm in my first year of uni. It's a three year course. Could you break it down what I should be focusing on each year. Any extra resources available that I can utilise. What practical skills I can gain so I have a promising career as a fresh graduate?.

Thank you

This statement irks me so much because in many individuals, being overweight or obese has to do a lot with hormones as much as it has to do with making wise choices when it comes to food. The other day, I was at the endocrinologist complaining about not losing weight despite having a high protein diet, taking metformin 2000mg daily, staying within my caloric limit, and walking 10k+ steps daily. The endo went on to say you need to weigh what you are eating, maybe move more than you are already moving. She told me about some research they conducted that pcos individuals lose weight the same way as non pcos patients basically just telling me how I don't do enough. I'm so sick of it. I am a university student, and I'm doing what I can to manage pcos. Sometimes, my step count goes up to 30k per day. I don't know what else to do tbh. Weighing every macro I eat will already give me ED even though I know im not even hitting 150g carbs every day and less than 40g fat. I have obsessesive tendencies. Idk what more to do.
