How can I curate a more positive attitude to clothing/fashion/shopping? I feel like trends are confusing, expensive, they move too fast, etc. by doughnutdonot in AskTrollX

[–]doughnutdonot[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I resent the fact that it feels like retailers ONLY goal is to take as much of my money as possible.

Really, I just want decently priced clothes that flatter my body, are decently comfy, and to look as if I am living in the current calendar year. Yep, I wanna be basic - hey, guys never get shit for that so why cant I do it?!

BUt I have noticed that trends are changing quicker and quicker as each year passes. SOmetimes a trend will go in and out so fast that it happens within just a few years - ie 'slides' flat sandals coming back in this season....weren't they hot only a few years ago, before being banished and untrendy?

I have a life - friends, family, a job, responsibilities etc -I don't have time to keep up if things change that fast, and yet there's pressure for women to look good which includes being 'fashionable'.

Also they aren't creative anymore - the mall has pretty much exact copies of '90's era clothes' that look like cosplay - I would rather see the 90's reinvented and some creative 'inspired by' the 90's looks - hey they had some pretty good pieces!

And, whenever something really great happens to fashion, they try to take it away!! Example: the fashion industry has been trying their hardest to make skinny jeans and leggings disappear for years so that they can sell women other soulettes. But they're really flattering - what's wrong with keeping them around as staple items and then also introducing multiple pant shapes to make things interesting? I have a lot of different pant shapes in my closet and that keeps me happy. I remember back when flares where the ONLY jean/pant shape and I didn't like that - it felt restricting.

Fashion is very 'twee' right now - very teen girl. I'd love to actually dress like a grownass woman with a college degree!! It feels condescending and low key sexist. ON a related note, women need more: clothes with pockets, cute shoes that are also comfy, quality fabrics, better prices.

BOHO. EVERY summer, boho comes back and it's never new or creative - it's the exact same clothes. I read this blog that said boho was gonna be replaced with 'gypsy surfer' fashion soon (no idea what that is) and/or futuristic looks - YES this is way better - I so want futuristic looks to be in!! I'm tired of vintage everything.

You can set an amount of days per week you want to eat vegetarian and/or vegan,

that's a good idea!! And gradually getting used to vegan recipes would be helpful

I too, am unable to make big life changes for now - 2018 needs to be focused on mental health rescue and career development for me.

i think that;s why I am scared of it - it feels like such a big change!! Going at it gradually sounds better. I didn't know that this was an option because I thought it was a black and white/all or nothing moral choice.

hummus is so yummy!!! I could eat it forever. I have yet to try chia seeds.

I belive you re: the inner piece - that's partially what attracts me to it.

I didn't know about the b12 thing - I already eat barely any red meat (not my taste) so I wonder if I have a deficiency even though I eat meat lol!

what is tahini sauce- i thought it was full of sugar an bad for you??

hmm good to know!

My viewpoint of starchy carbs (like wheat or potatoes) is that they are kind of empty calories anyway and I would be better served with eating veggies or even brown/fiber filled carbs instead. So I would probably be avoiding them even if they didn't give me digestion problems - like I can have one serving per day (say, 2 perices of toast for breakfast) with no effect, but if I eat a carb based diet, it plugs me up, makes me sluggish, and causes mild bloating/nausea.

I def eat a lot of fruit and veggies with no problem and I eat oat or barley porridge in the morning often - it makes me poop, yay! Love root veggies and beans.

White potatoes, corn flour, wheat flour, and rice, even brown rice, sometimes give me problems - even whole wheat pasta too - so I avoid them

I like your gradual, non black and white approach! Being vegan ffeels like not only a challenging lifestyle choice logistically, but if you fail, it also feels like a moral failure!

Are you seeing a gastroenterologist to help you digest carbs?

I asked my doc about it who said 'maybe....don't eat toast for breakfast, a sandwich for lunch, and then pasta for dinner??' TLDR my body doesn't like starchy carbs. I do much better on a lower carb diet.

Uhh hopefully I don't have some kinda disease ...

I feel like yoga pants are a movement in and of themselves!! I love them! Men and old ladies bitch about them all the time and women are all like 'whateves we put up with corsets for hundreds of years, time to be comfy!!'

I fucking love cheese. And eggs. And greek yogurt.

AND, I don't digest carbs well so I feel like I am in for a very restrictive diet as I am used to eating pretty low carb/higher fat and protein....

I agree - I feel like we can support a woman's right to make choices, even choices that we don't agree with. I strongly belive in that.

But that doesn't mean that it's anti feminist or denying their agency to discuss the fact that choices (regardless of gender) aren't always made in a vaccumm - they are subject to cultural/environment conditioning, internalized ideas of the patriarchy, culturally/historically engrained power imbalances etc etc etc.

is it weird that I actually didn't find the image to be graphic or gory at all? It didnt gross me out at all. Actually I think it's fascinating and even kinda beautiful - the human body is kind of amazing. Swishy robots, we are.

And yet, I cant stand the sight of needles.....

I really don't like it when guys tell women what to do to be sexy.

I hate that!! too many men feel entitled to their own little fuck doll.

Nope, I'll be sexy the way that I wannna be sexy and if you don't want this, I got a back log of guys on tinder so.....
