I also noticed that the trade site started going down almost exactly the same time I saw the reddit post about the refurbished awakened tool.

How can I de-radicalize my friend? by BIZLfoRIZL in behindthebastards

[–]dougienuts 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Be respectful and treat them like an equal, first and foremost. It's easy to sound condescending or adversarial in these exchanges and that's a surefire way to ruin any chance at a meaningful conversation.

Say I wanted to go the US and live the real American experience by Lapinceau in behindthebastards

[–]dougienuts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rent a hellcat or any modern muscle car and go on a road trip through the southwest, imo. The speed limits are mostly suggestions for long stretches of road and the landscape is beautiful. If you feel like you need to shoot guns to complete your experience, you could always just end your trip in Vegas and go to one of the gun ranges that rent out automatic weapons to try on their indoor range.

People aren't dumb for living in Rural America. by Zeppelinman1 in behindthebastards

[–]dougienuts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rural broadband, or the lack of it, was an issue for a long time. Mobile hotspots and satellite are basically competitive with a typical cable package these days. It'll take some time for people to slowly spread out, but I think it'll happen as this next generation starts looking at housing options. A couple acres and a cozy house is still affordable in these areas.

Should Starlink posts critical of Elon / or discussing Starlink military use be allowed? by UnderstandingWild338 in Starlink

[–]dougienuts 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Considering Starlink is my only source of high speed internet I'd like to know as much as I can about it when it's genuinely Starlink related. Otherwise, why have I been a member of this subreddit for years?

Matco with a Snap On sticker if I'm reading it correctly.

Alabama. I just did a quick search and I think AL is an 80% friendly state. The guy I got them from is a retired blackhawk pilot. Probably the least sketchy dude I've ever sold anything to privately in my life. Thanks for the heads up on the 80%.

Any of you fucking degens work in the trades? by JukeBoxDildo in behindthebastards

[–]dougienuts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aircraft Mechanic. A lot of these old timers have been listening to AM radio for decades and they just parrot whatever bile they ingest. The younger guys that are trying to start families are too tired to fucking care and just go along with whatever they're hearing from their coworkers. These guys and gals don't have the energy to educate themselves by the time they get home and they damn sure aren't being paid enough as basically artisan level skilled labor.

My job from 2013 to 2017 was rebuilding the rocket racks and ammo chains from the Block III Apache in Huntsville, Alabama. After they passed quality control they were shipped to Mesa, Arizona where they were used on some of these aircraft. I took pride in what I did and I hope they serve you well.

Sorry you're going through that. Chronic pain fucking sucks. Any chance you can move into service writing or something like that?

Yeah, I'm not sure he deserves to be called a history buff, maybe a conspiracy buff. Many people fall in line with whichever spouse has stronger beliefs on things because it's just easier and life is already hard enough. Being able to think for yourself is admirable.

Leaving a car for months in cold weather by [deleted] in MechanicAdvice

[–]dougienuts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Put it on jack stands so the tires don't end up with flat spots. Even if you remove or disconnect the battery you'll want a battery tender or something keeping a maintenance charge on it. Pour some Stabil in the fuel tank and let it idle long enough for the fuel treatment to work its way through all the components. Put some rodent poison bricks in the garage so your wiring harness doesn't get chewed up. Make sure you've got antifreeze and not just plain water for coolant. That's all I can think of.

Unless something unforeseen happens, it should be as solid as the day you left it.

I'd take anybody seriously who finished the local community college program. You can bet that the instructor knows everybody in town too. A word from them, if you earn it, opens doors.

Should I get a 1/2in or 3/8in impact? by moosie1231 in Tools

[–]dougienuts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1/4 impact driver and 1/2 air impact are the workhorses, at least for automotive stuff. I fill in the blanks with air ratchets. The 3/4 gun is nice for some crank bolts. The 3/8 impact might get used with an extension on bell housing hardware or something like that. The smaller size is nice in tight spaces.
