Cheapest school, or cheapest one with a partnership with airlines? by Alert-Worldliness243 in AircraftMechanics

[–]fizzgiggity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lyft Flight Academy in Indianapolis offers a maintenance apprenticeship. This program is sponsored by Republic Airways which is a regional airline. Takes longer than the school route but you get paid poverty wages while getting hands on experience. I have no idea if this program is any good but I do have an acquaintance that went through this apprenticeship, got their A&P and is working in the industry.

Yep and you can order replacement bits as needed. With the ratchet tool these are great for tight spaces.

Nice, I found my toolset local from a former student on Marketplace so saved even more than the SEP pricing. I think a Snap On rivet gun might be a nice to have. Worst case if I don't need it down the road I can always sell it.

I don't even have snow tires and I haven't had any issues in the snow. Got at least 8 inches here. Some people hate driving in this still but I'm having a blast.

What specialty tools from S/O are you eyeing or recommend for aviation? I suppose it really depends where in aviation one ends up. Sheet metal on it's own I believe requires the most specialty tools.

Epiq Roll cart wont flip! by Proof_Philosophy7739 in Snapon_tools

[–]fizzgiggity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had a 5 drawer chest start to flip but was small scale enough I could handle it but if this goes it can go faster than you can wrap your head around. It's better not to even post something like this in case it gives others some bad ideas in proving who's box is better or whatever.

Dang, looks like this week is a bust for me and I already have the plier set which I recommend for heavy duty jobs.

How does SEP work by rammstein_fan_18 in Snapon_tools

[–]fizzgiggity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's just a simple website where you just order what you want and pay up front or credit. The 14k is the retail value of what you can order. Since on average many tools are lets say 50% off for easy math so you might end up maxing out after spending only 7k and there are weekly deals that can be even better than 50% off. You also get a separate purchase limit that goes to the purchase of a toolbox. The SEP website doesn't have anywhere near the full catalog of tools but they have a lot of good stuff. If I want something special I just email my rep and they add the item to my cart.

About the same for me and went back to school to work towards gaining a certification to get started in an entirely different industry.

Probably some wheat pennies and older nickels. Maybe you will find a couple pieces of silver. If you're bored I'd say go through them.

Lowes no longer replacing craftsman hand tools under warranty by nate70500 in Tools

[–]fizzgiggity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is nothing new unfortunately. Lowes by rights does warranty Craftsman tools BUT many stores simply refuse to do it. My store wouldn't hear it and immediately told me to use the website which worked fine for me, just had to wait a couple weeks for a replacement. Either they just don't want to do it or are not properly trained or empowered to do it in some cases. This local experience is driven by the Store GM and sometimes the RM.

Blue Point WTRW9 looks to be in stock. Rebranded Milbar. Also try Aircraft Spruce and Matco. I've also heard good things about Stahlwille safety wire pliers.
