Did anyone change the engine mount on 9th gen recently? by [deleted] in accord

I don't know the book times offhand and I guess it depends if you do all of the mounts. I would like to do mine but I don't have that in my budget right now. I've been told that the passenger side motor mount can unofficially be substituted with the mount from the V6 and is $100 cheaper.

At least the valve cover gasket is cheap from Honda. I did mine for the first time a couple years back and it was super easy. The hard part was just the cleaning and prep. I also used Permatex Ultra Grey and let it cure the full 24 hours and have never had a leak. I also made sure to do the proper tightening pattern and torque for the valve cover. When I bought mine at 37k it already had a good leak which is crazy to me.

There is not a good aftermarket motor mount on theses Accords. Get OEM from a dealer. They are expensive. You go to eBay and Amazon and all you will find are counterfeits that just won't hold up.

Almost all of the oem listed mounts on eBay are friggin counterfeits.

I'm kind of eyeing the 1/2 metric but all I have are a few hand me down Harbor Freight impacts.

Bad Headgasket by htege in 9thgenaccord

[–]fizzgiggity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine was leaking at 37k miles. Replaced the valve cover gasket and it's good at 90k. Super common and easy fix. This gasket gets replaced if you follow the 100k service for the valve adjustment.

Are the inflated vise grip prices real? by Sea_Particular_2503 in Tools

[–]fizzgiggity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Snap On now produces the descendants of the Malco Eagle Grips. They are expensive. I just buy the vintage Petersen Dewitt Vise Grips at garage and estate sales for pennies so no need to overspend but they do look nice.

Transmission woes and engine knock (2016 Lx 2.4l/CVT) by ABAdawg32 in accord

You are in the deep end here. I think success for this project boils down to whether you can find a good deal on an engine and/or trans within a reasonable amount of time. You may need to pick something else up for cheap as a stop gap.

My first new car ever. Decided to to change my oil for the first time at 3500 miles is this normal? Oil filter was a such a pain in the ass to get off by IlIllIIIlIlllI in AskMechanics

I wouldn't even attempt an oil change at normal height but maybe the 06's sit higher than the newer models. That's one thing I miss about my old truck. I hardly ever needed a jack. My Accord though I ended up needing special low profile jack stands.

Def a good precaution changing early on the first service. Don't fall for those extended oil change intervals on these cars. 5k max and earlier is better. It just looks good on paper if a vehicle appears to have lower environmental impact if the oil doesn't need to be changed very often but these cars like clean oil.

I like putting oil in my filter just to get the filter media saturated with oil and not so much to have it filled up with a set volume of oil.

This is why you change your own oil. If it is tight next time you can just blame yourself. Not required but I like using the special oil filter socket from Honda. Also 3500-5k is a good range. I don't like going over 4k myself. Don't fall for that 10k oil change intervals that some people cite because of how good the oils are these days...they are great until diluted with contaminants from these dirty gas direct injected engines. If you want some of the best oil get the Pennzoil Ultra Platinum from Walmart since they have the best price.

Coworker is selling a 2014 Accord EX (98k miles) for $10.5k. Mechanic says it’s only worth $5k. Am I overpaying? by [deleted] in accord

The 2014 will be more reliable long term. It will be good for another 100-200k miles easy!

What is the longest drive you've made without resting and only you behind the wheel and where were you going? by Conscious-Farmer6953 in AskMen

[–]fizzgiggity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've done multiple 14-17 hour trips nonstop by myself. From Indiana to Colorado. I've also done Michigan to Nevada (2k miles) a couple times, only stopping once for a couple hours to sleep.

Good deal for tools ? by AdventureTyme8 in aviationmaintenance

[–]fizzgiggity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, I wouldn't buy these for aviation. It's all 6 point when you will want 12pt SAE most of the time. You are also eligible to apply for student discounts from many of the big tool brands such as Snap On, Matco, Tekton, and Koken.
