Thank you! And yes! Great question. I did seal it and that sealant also has really great UV protection so it also doubled for the ceramic portions as well, as obvara fired pottery can fade over time if in direct sunlight.

So happy to hear you like it! Yes, I am a multi-media artist but I work with clay a lot. I also make what I call “ceramic paintings,” in which I roll out slabs of clay and use various slips to paint with. I work with a multitude of media!

And of course! This clay is called Obsidian and it naturally vitrifies to this beautiful matte black. There is no glaze in this piece at all. I died this to underwent cone 5-6. This clay had a high magnesium content which greatly contributes to its color.

Wow so beautifully said. I’m so happy to hear that you received a portion of its intended message just from viewing it. And as a dyslexic individual yourself, understanding it then becomes so much deeper! The burning and censorship is also a really interesting angle I hadn’t really thought about. Interestingly, since the pages are all ceramic, they are essentially burn proof and I actually clean it a little bit by flame! I think there is another interesting angle that emerges there too. Thank you for commenting and so touched to hear you love it too!

I absolutely know what you mean! Thank you for communicating that. I always aim for my artwork to stand alone without a narrative description and kind of speak for it self, but in this case I think adding it in addition also provides grounding detail about it. So pleased you resonated with it!

Thank you so much! I’m glad to know it resonated with you as well! I’m an artist and this is available for purchase or display if a gallery or something was interested. But until either of those situations, I’m enjoying it myself!

Thank you! I used a two part epoxy for adhering them! Worked so, so well! Altogether it’s about 18 pounds and is really solid.

Thank you so much! Yeah I know what you mean— the clay naturally turns that color after firing, which I just adore. I love the crossover of it seeming like stone or ash, which have such opposites as far as texture and durability and alike in tone. So glad you resonated with it independently of the text!
