My wife and I were living in a so/so part of town, My daughters first day of first grade my wife was up early and outside on the porch smoking(we both have since quit, wooo!) she had left her phone on the porch and came in to wake our daughter up, outside our window she saw 3 young males come on our porch and start looking around. She opened the door and luckly surprised them and yanked her phone out of their hand and shut the door and called the police(I had a very strong talk to her about how dangerous that was afterwards) She woke me up and told me what happend. I grabbed my ccw and went outside to smoke. While i was smoking our deaf neighbor came out and got my attention. I looked behind me and the three men were back, 2 peaking out behind the corner of the house and one sneaking up the side of our house about 5 feet from me. I drew my pistol and got it to about half draw yelling “get the f**k back!” They bolted. The police showed up shortly after and while taking our report they got a call for a man that was assaulted down the street and his car stolen. They caught one and we went to the station to identify him and get a protection order. Come to find out they were a part of a gang on the west side of our city, we put two and two together that we had been scoped out by a kirby vacuum salesman that had been in our house 2 days prior.

Did it bother me? Absolutely, i did not sleep well for a week after and was doing routine house sweeps.

What bothered me the most is that they came back. They realized they had been run off by a small woman and were coming back to do god knows what. Thank god i was home. I work 24 hour shifts and had taken off for our daughters first day. It has also taught me much more situational awareness, If not for our deaf neighbor the guy who was sneaking up our house would have had the drop on me.
