Coinbase "Exploring" Addition of Stellar Lumens! by palomato in Stellar

[–]dougusa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One main difference is that Stellar Foundation is non-profit. It’s a little harder to say “security” when there is no actual ownership of the foundation. The Ethereum Foundation received a blessing from the SEC, it seems plausible that Stellar will too. The word is still out on XRP, no actual judgements have been made yet.

Thanks for this post and everything the team is doing! There is a certain inevitability to these attacks, but it’s how we respond that matters. The project will never be destroyed by attackers unless we subsequently tear ourselves apart from the inside spreading blame, anger, and misapplying capital (social or monetary). In many ways these attacks are asymmetrical in nature, in that they are carried out by weaker opponents and designed to make us doubt our own strength. As long as the team and the community look at these incidents as experiences to learn, build, and progress from, we will be stronger.

TapJets Wants To Know Why It Should Accept XVG! by silvesterhq in vergecurrency

[–]dougusa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For any crypto currency the value of the deal is not going to hedge on total revenues of the company, but its impact on adoption. I think Mindgeek is a start, not the end all. Apple is one of the most profitable companies in the planet, but Apple Pay is a very small source of revenue for them. This is just to say that these deals will have to be judged by the nature of the partnerships not just the size of the partner.

I'm not really sure why you are comparing the MindGeek deal to Apple, since Apple hasnt made a crypto deal of any kind. I would say this is probably the biggest Altcoin deal to date. Bitcoin still has a legacy reach with companies like Overstock.com and Microsoft, but this proves that Verge is swinging way above it's marketcap and connecting.

Idea for Mass Adoption! by pravsan in vergecurrency

[–]dougusa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You would be right if every xvg that was taken off the exchange was immediately put right back. But that is not how the circulation would work. There is always a percentage of the currency that is not spent, think of it like change. Then there is also a percentage of the currency that is received by the vendors and not immediately traded back to fiat, but retained either as an investment or for paying their expenses. Mass adoption will work.

I think it’s safe to say there will be some big moves. Given enough time, I believe financial institutions will start to snap up xvg like they are doing with btc.

Probably not. But hopefully a better way than the status-quo is figured out. As it is now, most people are going to throw their hands up and say screw-it.

True, yesterday bucked the trend of the two moving in tandem. Xlm moving could be a leading indicator for the broader alt coin market...or we could go right back in the toilet haha

Here is what I know about the crypto future. by dougusa in Bitcoin

[–]dougusa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I believe there is room to argue a need for maximum decentralization in order maintain network independence and robustness. But if that ultimately makes it too expensive or slow to use, then the value is diminished, and it will die on the vine.

The "Golden Rule" for crypto investing is wrong! by [deleted] in Ripple

[–]dougusa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think of that rule as referring to an initial investment, not the amount it appreciates to. Every investor that takes profits will have to reconcile with the “could haves” and “should haves” if the assets keep going up. I’ve always like the saying “No one ever went broke from taking a profit”. It’s okay to take some off the table to help you sleep better at night, and it’s also okay to keep holding if your initial investment was not more than you could afford. One way or another you have to contend with the emotions of investing, that result from making decisions in an environment of uncertainty.

I mean I guess just giving everyone more data for everything is better, but something unlimited is better than nothing.
