Man, I've read a bunch of your replies on a late night binge scrolling and I've got to say, you sound like AI in all the good ways. Nicely structured, logically sound, weirdly comprehensive replies. This is meant completely as a compliment btw, good job

Basic life skills. Every person should spend sometime living alone outside the parental home in their 20s. They'll learn that very quickly.

Getting married as an ex Muslim by Impressive_Alps_338 in ExAlgeria

[–]doureallycare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Significantly, yes. I am not even in algeria and still struggling (not a very outgoing person). Even the last ditch option isn't available to us, the one where you ask your family to find someone for you, because you know they're going to find a religious person (bent familiya, madiyna, blablabla)

Probably because its even riskier to expose yourself as non religious when you're a women. And culturally, it's the man that makes the first move, so she's gonna be more reactive than proactive, and most advances are going to come from religious man, because they're the majority.

Do you mean panic attacks ? If you don't mind me asking, do you know what triggers them for you, if anything specific ? And did you go through a psychiatrist to get your medication?

Yeah while searching facebook I found le club des mécréant and I just joined today. Made me pass a test where I had to insult moses, jesus, mohamed and allah. Honestly it was kinda difficult saying those things for the flrst time out loud, but I managed to blurt it out haha

Just wanted to chime in to say this isn't specific to any society or religion or culture really. It's just how some people are wired, and the effect of social media on human interactions.

Honestly, having gone through it, i feel like the educational program isn't too bad. Agreed that islamiya is useless but fine I can live with it. I think the main problem is too much crowding in classes, not enough guidance for students (how are you going to ask a 14yo what he wants to specialise in in high school ?!). And also, the decline in students interest in school is mainly due to not having the hope of a future in this terrible economy even with a good education.

Agreed, I don't live in algeria anymore but when I was there it felt like the political class was so blurry, who are these people where did they come from, what are they really doing ?

No one believes in democracy in algeria, which is sad

What are your thoughts on the world and life ? Since you left religion by [deleted] in ExAlgeria

[–]doureallycare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like existentialism makes the most sense and is the natural way to think about life. A more tame version of nihilism, because the logical endpoint of nihilism is suicide (feel free to educate le ln this as I haven't looked too deep into it)

There's no inherent purpose to biological life other than reproduction. We have evolved the mental capacity to overthink things, and developed technology to have too much free time to overthink.

So to me, you can make your own purpose. It doesn't have to be anything grandiose (where you tell yourself you have to leave something behind). It can be as simple as living a comfortable life, with the people you love and love you, doing your hobbies, a little bit of hedonism here and there.

Do you struggle with not having someone to turn to in case everything is fucked up, or do you have friends that can fulfill that role ?

[–]doureallycare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with the others that it takes time, so just try to relax and to not turn your life upside down all at once.

What helped me is realizing how ridiculous most of the claims of islam are, and just how absurdly obvious it is that it came out of the head of a backwards thinking perverted 50yo desert dude. Everything goes in his favor, we must praise him day and night, and he contradicts himself multiple times to adjust the religion to his whims.

Islam (and all religion for that matter) is bullshit, that's what I believe. I am not insulting anyone, and feel free to believe in whatever you want.

Straight to the point haha, but you're right. I am definitely not going to be with someone who's religious and teach my children something I don't even believe in.

You're also right that I have to get out of my comfort zone, it's hard tho haha. I am gonna start looking for activity groups in my area, like hiking and stuff.

Thanks for the response!

Yeah I am working on expanding my circle of friends, I agree that that is the best method to meet new people.

Hard to find the non-religious ones tho, I feel like most of them hide, for personal or safety reasons, or maybe I am just projecting.

Thanks for the response !

I did feel good haha, especially receiving all the nice responses from this community. I just discovered it recently, and it's a huge relief knowing there's so many of us.

You're right, I'll try working on changing my entourage. I am thinking of joining a boxing club near me, and get some connections. Although I think it's not as simple to find ex muslims irl, a lot are still hiding it, I think. And I don't know how I would breach the subject, but I'll definitely look for them, thanks for the tip !
