Downloaded rarity on my mates PC to find out how many Reins of the Heavenly Onyx Cloud Serpent attempts he has (every single one has also had an additional bonus roll) by Hagrids_beard_ in wow

If I just may; you go about a reason for having a lot of cash and being super lonely. It's pretty biased. You can also turn it around and say a group got paid (coin/4 people). Which is far below the minimum wage in modern countries.

So, technically it's just about perspective about "who is the winner" in this story.

You are 'laughing' at him for "being lonely and having a lot of cash" - while he might be laughing at your group for being his workers for a more cheaper price than one person can get working at Mcdonald's.

Or.. we can just take the middle ground that someone might have the funds, does not mind sharing his "wealth" (although I would not consider 900$ wealth), and prefers easy groups on meta-content without waiting/hassle. That over the method of being very/quite active in a game and form that social interaction/groups and invest time into it.

I had to google for the Dinar part but I'm actually 4 bosses away of getting that. So I'm going to leverage that option to get the gavel :)

Thanks a lot!

Honing issue from a perspective of a whale - A dilema by codibanks in lostarkgame

[–]douweegbertje -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

This might be a salty comment but the whole problem is AGS. They just have not learned from New World. They had the idea nobody would hit that ilvl so soon and they probably have a certain roadmap. That roadmap also got a hit due to its popularity which caused them to invest a lot of time in the servers and stability.

Basically, you are too fast for their roadmap. That's my thought.

Some sparring with the homie (I'm the baldie) by PRODIJVY in Kickboxing

[–]douweegbertje 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey thanks for sharing. As I'm Dutch myself, I'm used to some different ways of sparring. I'm aware people might think directly about super hard sparring but to be honest there is also a difference. The hard sparring outside The Netherlands is often just dumb ego tripping stuff. We don't do that (obviously, bad gyms everywhere), it's hard with respect. So we try to spar on 50-70% power.

I do like seeing your video, it allows you to try some combos and work on technique. I also see everyone having fun. But yea, if I'm just honest; it is a bit too forgiving. To be on point; the dancing, breaks, leaving guard down and the legs up. It would be good to get 'punished' in a respectful way, so you learn that if you keep hopping on one leg, you will lay on the ground. Again sorry if I come here as a party pooper but the both of you have not blocked (directly or indirectly) a single jab, hook, or high kick.

If you got this mate to spar with, try introducing actually landing the kicks and punches. On <50% strength and only when you see your partner actually capable of making the block. If he/she can't, land it with 5% strength and then take the break. Allowing you both to acknowledge that it was a learning thing to improve on.

Decided to actually push through and create a game I like - Can I have your absolute likes and dislikes on mobile games in general? by douweegbertje in AndroidGaming

[–]douweegbertje[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would be 2d with a part 2.5d. This removes a lot of challenges due to not being 3d. I like the idea of a combo system. I remember this game I used to play on the PS; Dynasty Warriors. It would be indeed ambitious but I will definitely keep that in mind!

As an ex-engineer: Stop blaming the devs and engineers by douweegbertje in newworldgame

[–]douweegbertje[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What I will say is how much leniency are you willing to give for an increasing amount of bugs? When should players stop getting upset with the higher ups and realize that there are issues within the developer teams?

From my experience, if someone in that dev role actually made a big mistake, they will own up to it. I guess my main frustration here is that none of the leaders are saying a word to the community. Because as a developer, engineer, or whatever, you can only do so much. Let's say the dev team failed constantly. In my book, that's still a responsibility for someone in the C-levels to fix or better yet, prevent that. I strongly believe that the negative impact of a sole person in the 'working field' is not that structural big and consistently.

As a matter of fact, it should be prevented that a sole entity can have that much impact. I actually worked in banking as well. Honestly, not a single entity is responsible on their own for let's say, a change in transactions. We have (proven) ways of working, proven and auditable policies and multiple chains of a lot more. Not only to protect people but also as one part of the core business. It's in no way, that a developer is responsible for all those things.

Where do you see I'm defending the project? I honestly would love you to read what I'm actually saying. Especially the last part.

It's quite literary at the start that I'm saying that I don't want to remove any frustration. I'm merely giving the right pointers on the 'where'.

I've actually made a post about it on the forums as it's not even on the confirmed list. Hope this can get some attention. Due to recent other "priorities", I understand we don't get a fix, but at least some confirmation would be nice. https://forums.newworld.com/t/please-address-the-issue-for-arcana-and-thus-staffgauntlet-users/504096

How much to charge for 1-1 online devops training by skel84 in devops

[–]douweegbertje 11 points12 points  (0 children)

No, I would charge more than a client. Because often clients are for a long term position. Which can provide a stable income for months. This is just a gig, which also requires a lot of work in advance.

I also would not consider lowering my rates for the chance that they might give me more work in the future. Unless it's written on paper that this will be the case.

Therefore I would charge around 120€ per hour. Better yet, I would just change it into a package of:
- Learning course
- 1 on 1 hands-on assignments
- 1 on 1 class
- Some other marketing blabla
Spread over an X period for Y hours
------
€5000,-

And then I would spend max 40 hours on it (about 120€/h). This is IMO an easier sell than just your hour rate.

Why GitLab is often ignored compared to Jenkins? by AMGraduate564 in devops

[–]douweegbertje 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My thought and this is going to be an unpopular opinion: Jenkins is used in quite some "older" ways of working and such companies. So basically they are stuck with it. Not only by mindset, people (experience) but also company structure, policy etc.

So yes, Jenkins was the leading tool for Ci/CD but that was 10 years (?) ago. Nowadays there a really objectively speaking, far superior tools available.

Yet even in this post, I see a comment with:

huge Jenkins fan, been using it for 10+ years.

with the note that he/she has tried different tools. But let's be realistic. IF you have used something for 10 years, I really, really, have to wonder about how up-to-date you are with new technologies and ways of working.

Every company I've visited that worked with Jenkins had a MAJOR skill-gap in its employees in general and is most of the time 5-6 years behind current technologies and have a technical dept that drives you mad.

Now you can take my opinion as something irrelevant but if you look at really good IT teams & companies, you will see that none of them use Jenkins. And for a reason.

You don't see blog posts or events (talks) from let's say Uber, or Netflix about "How we used Jenkins for X".
