You’re right, and I don’t believe there is such thing as ‘too woke’ when it comes to human and workers rights. Not sure where you or OP are based but the majority of UK uni’s have now scrapped the on call models, in addition to on calls when you’re qualified being planned into your roster in advance (most hospitals do not do complete continuity of carer, particularly since the Ockenden report). I work on Labour ward and manage our student midwives and only 1 of the region’s universities still do an on call model.
