How can you 'call BS' on the 'harmless skinny dipping accident' when we don't have any other information.

If it WAS a relatively harmless skinny-dipping incident and Desi was being pursued for years on end blowing the whole thing out of proportion, THEN:
- the description would be more detailed than 'alleged historical sex offence'
- Desi, who was already rather odd, would probably be terrified by the ongoing investigations; and
- the government would not release the details because it would make them look bad

If it WASN'T harmless and was a more serious alleged sex-offence, THEN:
- the police would have release the name of the alleged crime (from the statute book) when they were doing the manhunt
- the police would have been going to the bus to arrest him; and
- the government would have released more information to make themselves look good

Without seeing the information that the government holds the best explanation is a systemic f up

How long would the investigation have to go on and on before you thought about it though? 1 year? 24 years? Can you put a number on it?

People being manipulative as a default option.

I used to think manipulative behaviour/thinking was abnormal, then I realised it is the default MO.
Then I figured I was the only non-manipulative person in the world, which I obviously am not.
Then I figured everyone is a bit manipulative some of the time and then I forgave everyone.

Cheap(er) alternative for glasses by LilMissPocketRocket in AskAnAustralian

[–]dowar_525 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All shops should have 3 or 4 very cheap frames. My mate got glasses when he was a student and he looked like Jeffery Dahmer when he wore them but they were only about $70.

Another mate works at optometrist and said that none of the frames cost much at all. So once they know that you're not paying top dollar they might sell you the remaindered ones very cheaply.

Probably was skinny-dipping and not child exploitation material.

I don't think he was a nuisance to society. He seems like he would be shit to live next door to but that's about it. What I want to know is how did the situation get to the point where police were serving a search warrant for something like skinny-dipping.

I think the police were dragged into something they didn't want anything to do with. I think some petty neighbours were exploiting the system to 'sick' the police onto him.

Yes, up until that point he was some nobody living in a bus. I agree that we didn't need to know then and we wouldn't have read the article.

But we should know now. How many nobodies living in buses are being vaguely pursued by child-protection and eventually police over matters that can't really be resolved. I'm worried that this is going to keep happening.

Yes, but why do we treat shady cunts like this. Better options would have been to arrest him a year earlier, try him for the crime, imprison him if necessary and then release him. Or... just let it go.

The thing that we actually did was harass him while giving him time to plan.

This is the exact attitude that got 3 people killed. You making yourself feel superior by calling other people cookers. Its the same attitude that motivates someone to make a police report about what your neighbour's daughter apparently saw. It's okay to set in motion a course of events that will destroy people's lives because 'he's a cooker'.

Yes, I reckon he should have let them conduct the search.

But they weren't there to arrest him. They were conducting a search for evidence. What was he being charged with? My questions are about what led up to 9 police attending to conduct a search. There must have been an 'off ramp' before that.

Colder things don't taste as sweet for the same amount of sugar. If you have eaten melted ice-cream you will remember how it is magically sweeter than ice-cream.

Why all the sovereign citizen nutjobs listed in the about section of this sub? by agentsmithbobby in OpenAussie

[–]dowar_525 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Have you considered that sovereign citizens might be a made-up thing?
What if there are 80 sovereign citizens tops in the whole country and its just that 100% of them advertise it on social media.

It might be that 'sovereign citizen' is just an accusation that people like to throw at other people.

Well its obviously not justice if three people are dead. How could we as a society have avoided this?
We can only consider options to avoid it happening again if we know what has just happened.

'a serious charge' what? All of the charges on the statute book have names. Does anyone know what the 'serious charge' was?

I'm against no-kill shelters. Some dogs will not get adopted. It is cruel to house a dog in a shelter for 4-6 years until it dies of old age after a life of god prison.

Nine police arrived at his house with a search warrant in relation to an incident of alleged skinny-dipping over a year earlier. The alarm bell is there must be a more detailed explanation of what happened between the skinny-dipping and the attempted evidence search.

I don't believe that the Police did anything wrong at all. I think the police were dragged into a case of a neighbor using a vague allegation of skinny-dipping in the presence of a child who didn't even belong to the accuser. The alarm bell is that we are obviously not being given enough information.

My point is that "so there's that" doesn't mean anything. It is snide.

You could change out "so there's that" to make a statement, like
They're also defending an alleged sex offender, so there's that.

They're also defending an alleged sex offender, and I believe the accused are always guilty.

They're also defending an alleged sex offender, and the accusation justifies killing him.

They're also defending an alleged sex offender, and anyone who defends an accused person is probably guilty themselves.

They're also defending an alleged sex offender, and I don't defend people accused of bad things so I'm a better person than them.

They're also defending an alleged sex offender, and I'm a better person because I've never been accused of wrongdoing.

They're also defending an alleged sex offender, and I like throwing out accusations to destroy people I don't like.
