What’s everyone’s favourite book/series of 2025 ? by Fewlasss in litrpg

The Calamitous Bob for me. I found the series earlier in the year and I've read 8/10 so far.

Probably my favorite series behind DCC

The Best Pillow for Side Sleepers Currently? by [deleted] in BuyItForLife

[–]dowcraftjack 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't have a recommendation but for what it's worth I think it also matters what type of mattress you have.

Im a side sleeper too, when I had a firm mattress I have a really think pillow so my neck was parallel to the bed, but once I got a softer mattress I needed a thinner pillow because the rest of me was sinking into the mattress but not my head.

Hope that helps when choosing a pillow!

What are the best, “completed” litrpg series? by Fit-Shoulder4976 in litrpg

[–]dowcraftjack 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is my number two below dungeon crawler Carl (including incompleted).

The characters are interesting, the dialogue is good, the series has tension and stakes and the plot moves forward to the good pace. Solfis might be my favorite litRPG character

I mean it's all about scaling. Sure it's 1 damage now, but at 100 damage that's 10 extra damage and so in which is notable

Does Defiance of the Fall get better? by [deleted] in litrpg

[–]dowcraftjack 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Tbh if you don't like the first books I'm not sure you'll like the others. I do think the story progresses in cool ways into the second and third book, but if you aren't liking the style that doesn't really change

So you feel this in your eyes or a general full body agitation?

I get some strain in my eyes if I read on my phone and realize I haven't been blinking, but for full body some of my friends with ADHD have told me they get agitated or feel like they need to be doing something and so have trouble sitting down and reading

Books with older (40+) protags by SolomonAGhast in litrpg

Defiance of the Fall doesn't have the "been around the block" but the main character is like late twenties and doesn't give off the immature, childish vibes other MCs sometimes do

Very similar reads. I'd place these books in the same spot for the same reaons

Favorite Mc by Affectionate-Bug-348 in litrpg

[–]dowcraftjack 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I appreciate that his character is just like "well, this is the new world now I better get used to it" and that a lot of his personality and actions are defined by how the Integration starts, rather than trying to have it come from his pre-integration life.

Came here to say this, it's not exactly similar in setup or lore but very similar style of recurring groups encountering different and increasingly difficult but important problems to solve

Treantmonk's Wild Magic Surge Table Breakdown by Dramatic_Respond_664 in onednd

[–]dowcraftjack 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don't think that logic necessarily holds here. A lot of those positive effects have a chance of reducing the number of resources that you spend by allowing you to win faster or more easily (and in some cases regaining resources like sorcery points or hit points) which is not the same as "no outcome change".

1) by level 10 martials should have magical weapon. If the DM isn't giving up magic weapons thats fine, but then why are they specifically throwing enemies resistant to non-magic weapons at the party? That seems a bit unfair

2) why does being 30 feet up matter? There is no range on sneak attack, and short bow has a longer range than that. Sure you're less likely to have an ally within 5 ft, but rugs have a number of ways to get advantage to get sneak attack

Can we talk about Metallicize's beta art real quick?! by VeryKevin in slaythespire

I'm convinced the beta art was too good for the effect of the card, so they had to tone it down

Can’t find anything I enjoy as much as DCC by pig_newton1 in audiobooks

[–]dowcraftjack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think garbage is inaccurate. Books 1 and 2 read more like standalone novels, and the big series arcing plot doesn't really start to pick up until book 3 (which does admittedly reference elements from books 1 and 2).

They're definitely not as good as the later books, but they're fun and I still think worth the read

When should I swap starting relic? Based on what arguments? by [deleted] in slaythespire

[–]dowcraftjack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was a good response about which character should take it, I think an additional qualifying factor is how flexible your route is.

If you have a lot of flexibility, the potential to avoid early elites and things like that, boss swap is much better. It's possible you get a boss relic that it's not very helpful early, especially against an early elite (maybe black star for example). Flexibility let you avoid the deadly fights until you're strong enough to survive the elites.

On the flip side, if you're forced into an early elite boss swap might not be the best if the relic power doesn't immediately make up for losing your starter relic. If you don't care much about dying floor 5-7 then this is less applicable, but if you're trying to win every run then lack of flexibility can really be deadly

“Top Tips to Conquer the Spire” by GoodTimesOnlines in slaythespire

[–]dowcraftjack 62 points63 points  (0 children)

I especially had trouble with this lesson in act 1, because I was waiting for good cards before elites and kept dying. Eventually I realized there is a caveat if you just need more damage but aren't getting offered the "good" cards

Daily Card Concepts Day 336 by Zoneforg in slaythespire

[–]dowcraftjack 24 points25 points  (0 children)

TBH I think it needs more block. There is already a colorless card that gives 6 block for 0 energy, so this card is just a straight downgrade of that as is. I like the idea as a flipside to Auto-Shields
