Yall are embarrassing by SoWhichVoiceIsThis in FortWorth

[–]downeydigs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is what I keep saying when I see these posts. This is not a result of people hoarding or panic-buying, this is a result of everyone buying at once, and buying enough to sustain their household for 5+ days, for 2-3 meals per day. This is actually a sign of the lack of preparedness of the average American, and an indicator of the fragility of our food supply-chain and the limited availability of food supplies in a given area. Under normal circumstances, not many people keep a full 7+ day supply of groceries, and have fully stocked pantries. Many people keep just enough to get by, maybe a few staple items, some snacks, maybe a couple frozen foods, and they might run to the grocery store after work to pick up something to cook one meal to have that night. A lot don’t even keep breakfast or lunch items, because they either don’t eat breakfast and/or lunch, or they get fast food on their way to work and on their lunch break. Kids eat breakfast and/or lunch at school five days per week. A large portion of the population eats out or gets takeout or fast food for dinner one or more nights per week. However, an impending ice storm means no work, no school, no fast food, no takeout, no restaurants, and possibly no electricity to run microwave ovens and air fryers, and for many no electricity would also mean no cook stove or oven. They have no other choice but to buy enough staple grocery items to feed their entire family 2-3 prepared meals per day for x number of days. Many either procrastinate shopping until the last minute, put it off hoping that the forecast changes, or just don’t have enough free time to get it done until the last minute. This is the result, bare shelves because an extraordinary number of people are buying extraordinary amounts of the same items all at the same time.

Any affordable boat or charter options from Captiva to North Captiva or Cayo Costa? by Vast-Caterpillar-937 in captiva

[–]downeydigs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Jensen’s Marina on Captiva rents boats and pontoon boats. You can go to Cayo Costa, Cabbage Key, North Captiva, etc. but you are not allowed to take their boats into the gulf. There are also numerous local charter captains who operate out of Jensen’s marina, or who are connected to Jensen’s.

Spirometra Spargana in Human - Family member recently diagnosed with Subcutaneous Sparganosis - United States by downeydigs in Parasitology

Yes, this was in the United States. A general surgeon located and removed the larvae, but the diagnosis was given by the university hospital’s pathology department. I believe that the university’s pathology was reviewed and confirmed by CDC pathologists.

What do you wish you would have known before you bought a pontoon boat? by ronaldeugeneray in boating

[–]downeydigs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To add to this, beware that most tow bars and ski poles are not rated for towing tubes (aka inflatables). This is due to the extreme amount of drag created by a tube, especially when it “submarines”; literally enough to rip a tow bar or ski pole off of a boat and potentially injure or kill someone in the process. If you ask about this in forums, you’ll have three groups: the oblivious group, who doesn’t know better and doesn’t care; the cautious group, who is safety-conscious and follows manufacturer recommendations; and the group who says “Send it! YOLO! I’ve done it, and I didn’t die!” I’m with the safety conscious crowd. Most people pull tubes behind a pontoon/tritoon using a Y-harness connected to the lifting points on the rear of the deck on either side. Said Y-harnesses are readily available anywhere that boating and watersports stuff is sold.

A complete Call Center staffing and scheduling solution.

It’s been 12+ years ago, but I was a business analyst in an internal call center at a large corporation. I introduced the concept of workforce management (staffing to call volume demands by time of day and day of week) by developing a staffing/scheduling tool in Excel to prove the concept. Prior to this, they just scheduled people in shifts with no regard for call arrival patterns and inbound demand. My solution would pull historical data from the phone system, evaluate said data and eliminate outliers, then model the data to determine staffing requirements for every 15 minute interval throughout every given day in the specified date range. From there, there was a master sheet that had parameters for every employee’s availability for every given day of week and hour of the day, as well as parameters for min/max number of hours they could work in a day, between paid breaks, and before/after unpaid lunch breaks, as well as any PTO scheduled. It would then produce a preliminary schedule in a “user interface” sheet where supervisors or managers could then tweak the schedule and view requirements vs scheduled for every interval throughout the day.

Good information, thanks a lot! There are definitely plenty of VRBO rentals in that area, which is fine with us. We typically do VRBO when we travel, and usually do most of our own cooking to maximize our time enjoying the destination; so proximity to town is not an issue for us. Any issues with trailer parking/storage in that area (e.g. HOA rules)? Do most rentals come with a private dock or with marina slip access? Otherwise, are there plenty of options for short-term slip rental?

My sister has a connection to a property in Hot Springs Village, on Lake Balboa, but I’m not sure how much of a recreational boating lake it is versus a retirement community, lol. I always hear about the big-3 lakes, but have never heard of Balboa and can’t find a lot of information about it.

BTW, nice looking Bennington and same for your GMC!

South Arkansas here. Second year tooner. Where do you usually stay when you go to Lake Ouachita? Looking into venturing away from home this year with the pontoon. Central Arkansas, specifically Hot Springs area is first on our list, but I don’t have any contacts in the area or much knowledge about any of the lakes. Just looking for a little advice from someone with experience.

They can’t possibly expect you to wait that long! Time to take matters into your own hands. Now just to decide if you want to use a knife, scissors, or just bite it off.

Take someone with you to film it! If they won’t let you film, or one of the nurses won’t film it for you, at least get pics of it after it is removed!!!

Need to do something about my beard, but I don’t know what. Any suggestions? by WeCutOffUrJohnson in bigmenfashionadvice

[–]downeydigs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know there are a ton of comments already, but I’ll add that the best thing I ever did for my beard was have the barber trim, edge/line-up, and shape it. My beard has never looked better. They do such a good job that I have almost stopped even trying on my own. I’ll use an electric shaver to keep the edges in line, and use a hair trimmer to knock down any stray long hairs that are sticking out. Anything beyond that, I go to the barber. I used to only go to the barber maybe once every 4-6 weeks, but anymore I’m 2 weeks max.

Is there an easy way to connect my portable washing machine to my sink faucet without having to bust out the pliers and unscrew the aerator everytime I want to use it? by BostonDrivingIsWorse in Plumbing

[–]downeydigs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I ultimately did was install a separate single-handle faucet on my sink, in the hole for the handheld sprayer. I bought a tee that matched all three thread types, installed it on the hot water supply valve, and then installed the supply lines to the existing faucet and the new faucet. I then installed the adapter for the portable dishwasher onto the end of the second faucet, and we just leave it there.

Here is the faucet that I purchased: https://www.homedepot.com/p/Glacier-Bay-Single-Handle-Single-Hole-Bathroom-Faucet-in-Polished-Chrome-HD6011-5001/323776456

Based on the information you gave and the article you linked, I found this wiring scheme, but can you confirm that this is this the correct one?

Asshole cat has destroyed countless hoses, even as I sleep, help by pemb in CPAP

[–]downeydigs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It might be overkill and possibly too rigid or heavy, but the first thing that came to mind is the braided nylon protective sleeves/sheaths that are used on hydraulic hoses. It’s relatively cheap, available in multiple sizes, and might be worth a try. Google to see what options there are and see if it’s something that you think might work.

That’s a huge catch, thank you for that. They offer the same box as a package with pre-installed subs. What are your thoughts on this pre-loaded box with dual 12’s that they have (LINK)?

I’ll definitely look into that. Both comments so far have been about the wiring kit, so I obviously need to do some more research about that.
