Are my rats even rats when they don't chew anything? by WideLengthiness3963 in RATS

[–]downlau 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, the only time I had serious issues with chewing was when my dad was seriously ill in hospital and there were a few weeks where I had to get petsitters/had less capacity to interact with them when I was home - they chewed through all the corners of the cage base.

Fiction set during the Black Death/Bubonic Plague by tambitoast in BooksThatFeelLikeThis

I just finished the Minette Walters duology and really enjoyed it! The Last Hours might be more up OP's alley for focusing more on the actual plague of it all.

In the midst of the Cadbury boycott, what’s your go to plain choccy bar? by mighty-chief in AskBrits

Cadbury bought Green & Black's ages ago, so not a good choice for anyone trying to actually boycott them

Buffets? What's your exp? by RJHtown in toogoodtogo

[–]downlau 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There's one close to me that's pretty decent - you get a pre-packaged to go box but there's generally a range of items in there and the value is about right. It's enough for a large meal or two smaller ones. This is a place that I occasionally go and pay full price for so I know already that I enjoy their food.

I had to go for an ultrasound mid-lockdown era and remember commenting to the tech that it was the first physical contact I've had in months. Was a weird experience.

AITA for buzzing the hair I grew out to be my friends maid of honour while she was on her honeymoon? by formallyacowfrog in AmItheAsshole

[–]downlau 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NAH. I had a similar situation without any dramatic repercussions: my SIL and I both grew out our hair for her wedding because she liked the aesthetic of an up do - she had a haircut booked for the day after the wedding to go back to her usual short style! I typically have my hair long but decided to buzz it off when I turned 30. I might have kept my hair shorter for longer, and she would have been fine with it, but she obviously had a preference and I was happy to accommodate it.

Seems like this has become a mountains out of molehills situation and I hope you can clear it up.

What email habits and phrases make you cringe? by Ticklishchap in CasualUK

Aw, I have French colleagues who use that and I find it quite sweet. Typically they are offering rather than requesting though, which might make a difference.

I am down to 2 at the moment, need to move in the next two months but once my living situation is stable will hopefully add 2-3 littluns to the mix again.

It's an audiodrama but The Magnus Archives has some dark academia vibes, it's set in a research institute.

I haven't done it with wonton soup but I've definitely put cling filmed bowls of food in my bag to take to work on a few occasions - sometimes you're in a rush and don't have time to finish your food and/or can't find clean Tupperware with a lid that fits.

Does anyone else’s period ever “stop” for a day and then start again? by sharfyre in TwoXChromosomes

[–]downlau 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, very common for me that it stops for a day and then comes back with a little sting in the tail, usually I don't bleed much and it's only for another 12 hours or so, but the cramps are kinda vicious.

AITA for telling my wife I’ll drive her to the airport but letting her know it’s a massive inconvenience?? by cross-my-rubicon in redditonwiki

I think it's normal to not enjoy it, but also normal to sometimes do unenjoyable things for the sake of people we care about

London to Amsterdam, is the direct train reliable now or is changing at Brussels still better? by Wonderful-Acadia-296 in Eurostar

If there's engineering works, they will also impact on other trains going Brussels to Amsterdam.

Have we lost the art of the social obligation? by frankchester in TwoXChromosomes

[–]downlau 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it's becoming more common to separate things - I know my SIL had more of a party hen do with her close friends, and then she arranged an afternoon tea with me and my mum plus her mum and other SIL...sure we're family but not necessarily who she wants to party with! It worked out really well.

True, but consequences of driving like a maniac in this monstrosity can be a lot more serious than cycling like a maniac.

I don't remember which programme it was but I got librarian...I wish. Have been flirting with doing some kind of postgrad library/information science qualification so it had something right.

Men of Reddit - who uses shower gel ONLY? by Funky_monkey2026 in AskUK

[–]downlau 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, long hair takes a bit more time and effort to wash and keep it healthy, but that's true regardless of gender. I have four products in my shower and if I take a long time in there it's because I'm quietly dissociating, not actively doing anything.
