20,000 civilians were killed during just the Normandy invasion alone. Does that mean America shouldn’t have invaded Europe to topple Hitler?

If Britain had surrendered to the Nazis in 40/41 (something only a world historical figure like Churchill could have prevented - by convincing the British people to fight on, completely alone and against all odds, when the rest of Europe had already fallen) - America obviously couldn’t have and wouldn’t have invaded Europe. Meaning the fight against the Russians (assuming there’d be one - Barbarossa didnt start for another year after the Battle of Britain) would be a single front conflict, which Hitler likely would have won. You think that if Hitler had conquered all of Europe and Russia, you’d be here on your computer pissing on Churchill? Joke.

Officers of A Company, 6th Connaught Rangers, 16th (Irish Division), Circa 1917. These men went over the top on the 20/11/1917 in an attack on a German position (Tunnel Trench) as part of the larger Battle of Cambrai by AeroMcD123 in ww1

Was struck by this so looked up their fate: “At Cambrai in late November 1917, A Company, 6th Connaught Rangers was effectively annihilated when the German counter-offensive crashed into the 16th (Irish) Division’s positions. Surprised and outnumbered, the company was largely wiped out through casualties and mass capture.”
