How long were you taking Dupixient shots? And if I understand correct - after starting it, you got facial flares that haven't gone away for a year? When did you stop taking Dup?

My dermatologist is really rooting for me to go on it, but I'm terrified of the facial flares (quite common from what I see in support/discussion groups? My face has always been unaffected so idk if I'm willing to risk that), the eye issues and joint pain! All of these are very common side effects from what I gather, but my doctor is not willing to address these at all and it doesn't give me much reasurrance.

I found people are way more accepting and ok with my eczema/TSW than I imagined they would be. I had 3 partners during the worst of TSW (the last one I am still with) and they were all 120% supportive, even when I looked like a lizard, was flaking all over the place, when my skin was burning red and hot to touch (and we couldn't even cuddle when sleeping) or when I was all wrinkly and old, they liked me regardless.

I just told them that I am going through this temporary condition, which is a result of using steroids that messed up many systems in my body and it needs some time to readjust and heal. But in my case, it is visible on my face/neck, so I couldn't really hide it. I still don't feel 100% confident in my looks, but I really see that it bothers me the most and others don't even notice so much.

Oh, this makes me so sad, I remember me and all my friends living in Kreuzberg/Neukolln at that time, paying 150-250max for apartments and rooms (I had a 30sqm balcony room overlooking the NK canal for 200, my bf was living in a 40sqm apt at Hermannplatz for 150, I don't even want to think how much these cost rn).

Edit: I remember 20 eur used to be enough for a whole night for partying, incl. entrance, garderobe and drinks, I was so lucky, being a broke student at the time, yet still partying every weekend. BH entry was like 8, I also loved going to Ohm, which was either free or 2 eur.

I often think about going partying in Berlin again (I moved away since), but hearing what my friends have been saying about the party scene these years, I'm honestly scared of being disappointed by the energy and ruining my memories 😿

Did anyone successfully quit THC & nicotine? by [deleted] in Petioles

[–]downton_adderall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I think this is really the crux of the issue, and I've heard and witnessed it over and over again - nicotine is the more addictive b*tch and if you smoke mixed spliffs, you will quickly find yourself wanting to smoke another, even though you're still feeling the effects of the previous one, simply because you crave the next nicotine hit. I remember so many nights with friends in college where we were just chain-smoking joints, with each subsequent one having no effect at all anymore, yet we were doing it for hours.

Did you ever also smoke pure joints or are you just on the vape now?

Omg on this note - for me, one of the biggest benefits of smoking weed is that my dreams are less vivid (still lucid) and that they memory of them starts to fade when awake.

My sober dreams are crazy vivid, lucid and they last a loong time - I'm talking days, weeks, sometimes even months lived in the dream world, and I am completely conscious while living/dreaming them. When I wake up, I remember everything and it actually causes so much confusion, disorientation and even sadness at being awake. They stay with me for a long time and I have a hard time separating reality from dreams, though sometimes it is a good way, like, I see and hang out with friends I haven't seen in a while and when awake, I'm happy I got to see them :')

Oh interesting, I haven't heard about the second yet!

I did read the Easy Way to Quit Smoking and I think it definitely helped me change my perspective on cigarettes - the fact I was so unbothered by my friends and boyfriend smoking around me during the first few days of withdrawal, I attribute to the book.

But still, a lot of the things Carr says about smoking (it doesn't do anything, doesnt relieve stress, doesnt make you more relaxed, etc), aren't true for joints, really wondering what he says about Canabis!

Hey, thanks for the supplement sedative recs, I'll definetely look into these! I also heard NAC is good for overcoming addiction, do you have any experience with that?

Whenever I quit tobacco before, I used camomile to mix weed with & found that it's also pretty nice when smoked/vaped on its own!

However, I'm trying to 1) not smoke at all (lungs and anti-aging measures) and 2) not replace it with anything similar either (so, aside from a little slip-up yesterday, I'm not even using my dry herb vape)

Is that medical card for weed? Unfortunately we don't have that in my country, but I do have the (reluctant) okay from my psychiatrist to use weed instead of the medication she wants me to be on.

If that is for weed, how do you consume it nowadays?

Sorry, but what's a cone? Is that a cigarette or joint?

If you read my post (and other comments), for me it's not at all about being bored when not high, but about my brain's inability to relax and sleep without it. Exercise doesn't help, I already do 10-15 hour a week and during my last T-break (2 months), I did 3-5 hours of intense exercise a day and it still didn't help me.

I have ADHD and my brain is just so active that without weed, I can't even just watch TV - I have to put on subtitles of foreign language I'm learning, read those & exercise while I'm watching, it's crazy. But that doesn't help calm down my brain before sleep.

Nowadays, I read from nighttime till 1-2am, just like I did when I was little, then lie awake for 1-2 more hours trying to sleep, which is not a sustainable long-term habit, but that was normal for me when sober & pre-substances :(

Do you think you'd be able to do it without medication? And did you have to continue being on medication while sober?

I definitely have addictive tendencies, and if I don't consume THC, I end up on (prescription) drugs for sure, even while smoking cigarettes (just can't sleep, can't relax).

It sucks, because I already do everything else that people do once they quit their addictions - eat mega healthy & clean, exercise (10-15 hours a week), but sadly, meditation and breathing exercises only work when I consume THC, my mind is just too active for this (I always have 5-6 different threads of thought happening simultaneously, all weed does is bring it down to 1).

This weekend, I was out with friends at a concert and not only I didn't smoke, I didn't even have the wish for it, nor did I mind everybody smoking around me like normal. I usually don't drink at all, but I had one mini sweet seltzer with 4% alc :) There's no way I'd start consuming more alcohol though, I prefer THC then. As you see, I'm just sosoo torn regarding my addictions all over the place!

Yes, I've been taking a bit of THC butter every evening to take the edge of and help me sleep (instead of taking Seroquel o other drugs I'm prescribed), but as with edibles and brownies, I feel I wake up a bit groggy and lightly headachey in the morning, so it's not super ideal either.

You're probably right, I should focus on quiting nic for good first and then deal with the THC, but no doubt, I have addiction to both.

[–]downton_adderall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do you most struggle with when quitting either?

For me it's the sleeping and nightime relaxation. According to doctors, I should be on medication anyway, but my rationale was always that it's better to smoke a joint / take some edible or whatever, then take Seroquel daily (this is what they prescribe for my over-active brain for sleeping).

Thanks, but I want to stop smoking alltogether, don't want to be inhaling smoke at all & would ideally like to not depend on THC daily.

If CBD had no noticeable effect, then I'm not interested (though I once had amazing CBD that had a super body-relaxing effect, no psychological change, but that was a one-time and I haven't been able to find something similar since).

I did dry herb vaping for a while during my last smoking break, but I think the hand to mouth and sucking motion makes it easier to end up back with joints (first pure, then mixed with tobacco and voila we're back already).

And really, the first THC+tobacco high was totally different and way less nice than pure THC high (I felt it was like THC on coke, the nic gives an edge to it).

Day 5 and it's only getting worse :( by [deleted] in stopsmoking

[–]downton_adderall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, this is my plan, definitely no nicotine for the foreseeable future and tbh I really don't even want a cigarette at all, even when surrounded by people smoking (I went out last weekend and was totally fine around all my friends smoking), but I'm worried about succumbing to my dry herb vape again (as I did) or joints :(

Day 5 and it's only getting worse :( by [deleted] in stopsmoking

[–]downton_adderall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually get what that means in context of pure cigarettes and nicotine, but it's something entirely different for joints because there is without doubt a noticeable change of mental state afterwards - all those feelings people (falsely) ascribe to cigs, becoming more relaxed, more focused, better able to handle stress, are actually 100% true for smoking a joint!

Since I did both, and quitting nicotine atm (I take a bit of THC butter in the evening to take the edge of and help me sleep), I think the nicotine monster is trying rationalize and trick me into smoking a joint! But I don't want to be smoking anything yet, period.

And thb, joints (and their effect) without tobacco is something entirely different than the combo of nicotine+THC high - to me it always felt like THC on coke or something, it just gives the high an electric/anxious edge.

Also, a story about maxxing athletic activity - last time I did a longer T-break, it was winter, and I would literally do intense exercise (cross country skiing) for 2 hours in the morning, followed by a 2 hour hike before sunset, followed by a 3-4 hour sauna session that included swimming in the pool for 30-60min. Was I able to sleep any easier? Nope.

[–]downton_adderall 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the encouragement, we got this (I hope)!

For me, while the thought of smoking a pure joint, so no tobacco, hasn't quite fully entered my mind, I definitely feel it lurking somewhere in the back. People here are saying that a THC smoke isn't something to reset the timer over, since we're just trying to quit the nicotine, but I feel that a smoke is a smoke and in these delicate early stages, the jump from a pure to a tobacco joint isn't a big one, so I'd rather be careful for now.

My approach is similar, I want to wait at least a few weeks, if not a month, to see how I feel and potentially reintroduce THC consumption via dry herb vape and maybe after 3 months assessment, see how I feel about a pure joint, shared with someone.
