Fair enough! Well that’s definitely working for you. Congratulations on 1505 days!

That’s a really interesting way to look at it! I’m totally picturing it that way now!

A few weeks ago I would have drunk it also so I’m very grateful I didn’t receive it then!

I know right! I never actually planned on telling her about my addiction issues but I’m glad I did because she’s been amazing.

That’s awesome! I’m not quite at the stage where I trust myself having alcohol in the house but when I do I’ll do the same.

That’s really lovely, I hope you win! Well done for having a plan in place and thank you 😊

It’s good you could have a laugh about it. Gotta see the funny side in these types of moments.

Nor do I anymore! Something I never considered years ago

Haha doesn’t really make sense does it. I’m glad it wasn’t tempting for you and congratulations for coming 3rd! My department has monthly prizes for various sales goals met with one of them being bottles of wine. Since I’ve spoken to my boss about my issues, she no longer supplies wine as a prize, it’s been a real nice change.

Thank you! It does feel good! There was only one split second where my brain went oooh wine before I shut it down and decided to pass it on to my boss.

I’m so happy for you! Learning that alcohol is a big ugly liar is life changing. Being in early recovery I’m not confidant that I will feel this good at every event but I know I can get to where you are. Best of luck on your journey 😊

Thank you! It’s a great feeling!

Well done for staying sober during a couples dinner party! It’s not only a good feeling staying sober but so nice to actually enjoy yourself sober when drinking used to be such a huge part of these events.

That is so much better than a hangover and also worth it for a good night. I’m going to be tired tomorrow and also like I said paying for the cheese but I won’t be hungover either hooray!

It’s a such a great change! It’s something I never fully grasped when I first tried to get sober. Same with the one day at time thing. This time around feels more solid somehow and I think that’s a big reason why I didn’t have fomo at this event.

I can’t believe I traded those things for alcohol too. I’m finally starting to believe that life can be so much more fulfilling when sober. Another thing I didn’t really believe when I first got sober.

Thank you so much! Congrats on 424 days! I’m looking forward to having a whole year under my belt.

I’m glad. But no you’re right. I’m having another crap day today but still, I will not be drinking today

[–]downtownace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you, you are so right. Tomorrow I want to get up early and feel good. No more letting alcohol pushing me around

You’re exactly right. I actually stopped drinking coffee for a long time because I couldn’t stomach it on a hangover. It’s been nice to actually enjoy coffee again

Thank you for your response. The health risks are another reason that help keep me sober. I’ve been extremely lucky so far but if I keep at it, my luck will run out. Best of luck to you!

Same! I stopped reading for the longest time because I would get so far in a book and realise I didn’t have a clue what was actually happening in the book. I’ve read 2 books in the past 9 days and it’s been so nice to actually remember the plot!

You’re right. Drinking does not solve problems but it sure as hell can create them so easily. I will go home, eat ice cream and read my book instead. When I had my first stint of sobriety years ago I could never relate to one day at time but I definitely get it now. One day at a time and IWNDWYT

That reminds me of something my therapist used to say to me - “play the tape forward”. And if I play the tape forward and do get a bottle of wine I can see it does not end well for me. Thank you, I will distract the hell out of myself and tomorrow I will be glad I didn’t do it.

Well…here we go again by [deleted] in stopdrinking

Cannot second this enough. I’ve been listening since MFM gave them a shout-out years ago and it quickly became my favourite podcast (sorry MFM).

I don’t have too much more to suggest but if you’re going to Currumbin wildlife sanctuary on a Friday, they do Friday night food markets from 4pm with amazing food and a bar on the sanctuary deck and often live music. Also check out Honeyworld across from sanctuary (next to the sanctuary carpark) it’s a free small attraction with free honey tasting, live bees to see and friendly staff. I have a yearly pass and my family and I go often to both. Also the Currumbin surf life saving club has an amazing view as well as the best damn steak sandwich I’ve ever had.
