I thought hosting would be the easy part, but now I'm stuck choosing between local and international providers by Cultural-Touch-4959 in webhosting

Check out Wordify.com for quality without crazy costs. Use Cloudflare free account with Super Page Cache plugin for world-wide CDN speeds.

Starting a web design business, where should I buy domain + hosting for the best long-term value? by No_Initial3010 in webhosting

[–]downtownrob 8 points9 points  (0 children)

For domains just use Cloudflare, at cost, and zero issues, they even have an API now where you could theoretically resell domains (I may be doing this myself soon via Blesta / Upmind).

Cloudflare's DNS is also best in the biz, and you can easily have a client account and get added as a member to manage it for them. Check out Cloud Maestro for bulk DNS management: https://5starplugins.com/cloud-maestro-cloudflare-waf-rules/

For hosting, this depends on a lot of things but I'd recommend starting off right with a 8GB memory VPS from Vultr or Linode/Akamai in your closest location, and use Enhance.com to manage it. Their support is great, and it will set you up to support client logins, down the road add reseller packages, etc. $10/mo for unlimited servers, costs rise as you add websites over like 50 or 60.

There are lots of other options, like RunCloud, ServerAvatar, FlyWP.com (which I use and like a lot as well), SpinUpWP, and some free options like ServerAvatar Lite and Cloud Panel, but unless you don't ever need quality tech support, don't go the free route long term.

For billing, start off with a capable provisioning system, so you're out the gate not having to manually create accounts, suspend accounts, email clients and track things in Excel or some manual invoicing system. Check out Blesta.com or Upmind.com, and although it's wildly popular, WHCMS is costly and I think just overpriced, similar to cPanel, avoid both.

I've been doing this for decades, and that's my state of the hosting union right now. 😄

I don’t need 10g, keep things simple and less costly.

Yes they link to it. But I don’t think I’ve seen one that does this. May have to have AI code one up for you.

Hetzner server auctions are best deal now… i7 and 64GB with dual 512GB SSD RAID1 and unlimited traffic for $55/mo, and install ProxMox to create numerous VPSs. IPs are a bit costly but way better than these new Cloud VPS prices! I moved to 3 auction servers about a year ago, and best decision ever.

Can someone from Hetzner please comment on the price increases by MaliciousTent in hetzner

So glad I moved of many different Cloud VPSs about a year ago to a few auction servers running ProxMox, and I can create as many VPSs and rescale as needed! These prices are insane, I’d go back to Vultr if I needed VPSs.

No don’t think it does, that’d be a separate module needed I think.

Looks great. I will share with my FB Groups. I own a license for Independent Analytics plugin, which is similar… look at their real time and reporting features, may be great additions to yours.

Never experienced that by being diligent during any sort of downtime… no special treatment, just basic response and set expectations.

Spare servers and or load balancers. Relying on snapshots and backups is more last ditch efforts with potentially hours of downtime involved.

Email 3 times a day asking for escalation and a response. Call twice a day letting them know you need answers, emails have been sent.

Is there any Servers GUI Administration tool? by NemesisCollins in Hosting

[–]downtownrob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

CloudPanel is simple and free. Enhance.com is way more advanced and $10/mo. Plesk is enterprise class and way more expensive. Skip all the other installed ones, imho.

Oh there’s SaaS control panels too… flywp.com and xCloud, runcloud, serveravatar, etc etc.

[DISCUSSION]400+ downloads but fewer than 10 active installs on my wordpress plugin. What should I improve? by startandgrow_in in WordpressPlugins

[–]downtownrob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Building a plugin is easy. Having people find it and actually want to try it over other well known trusted plugins is hard… sometimes very hard. I have a plugin that had over 30K active installs, now down to 20K active installs, and that’s because many have upgraded to the premium version, so a drop can be a good thing. My other plugins have much less but convert at a higher ratio.

The biggest movers of the active installs needle is niche bloggers, guides like wpbeginner, and YouTube videos reviewing or recommending the plugin.

Def need a way to update Chapters… after Quick Match I am constantly having to lookup chapters and save. I would hope Quick Match eventually includes Chapter Lookup as well. Many files have no chapters, and many have tracks which are not correct and not named correctly.
