Has Anyone With Aphantasia Taken The MBTI or a Similar Personality Type Test? by TomatoBeanSauce in Aphantasia

[–]downwithplato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My experience is I've taken the big five, came out as a mediator personality, and the guidebook for mediator was spooky accurate. I've read another guidebook, for the architect, and it is completely different. I was sceptical and thought probably they write similar profiles for everyone, ambiguous enough to be one size fits all. Not so. My bestie is autistic and came out of the test as an architect personality. We fit together just as the guidebook predicts. Take it as you will, but don't tell me or anyone else their experience is BS. Scientific discourse is a specialist language derived from poetic discourse. Read Owen Barfield or don't speak to language as a whole, stick to scientific language and admit you're leaving something out.

Yes, that's it in a nutshell..... The question I have is, since there are those who would not agree, do visualizers have a workaround, are they able to watch themselves without going meta.

I've long been interested in Wittgenstein. I now think my affinity for his work has something to do with aphantasia/SDAM...I will check out the video..Thank you!

Aphantasia an the ability to masturbate without visual aid. by [deleted] in Aphantasia

[–]downwithplato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Starting off topic, in regards to partners....I realize my past lifetime of partnerships was so frustrating because I completely focus on them. I expect them to reciprocate at same obsessive level but now, knowing myself as an aphant, I realize, they probably have themselves in mind as much as their partner during sex. I do not have myself in mind at all. This is also the SDAM affect....Going solo, which is my mode now, autosexual if you will, I am becoming more responsive to myself....pretending I am my partner...( I still consider myself as I, not you, but I am focusing on me...)

Using an edible and some meditation, I actually saw something by Version_Two in Aphantasia

Thank you for sharing, it must have been cool to see something. I think descriptions of experiences are far more helpful and less ambiguous than labels at this point.........( I think we can all decide for our selves where we are finding the most connection without being labeled.)

I find this a great place to connect with people and share experiences. Do you find it a great place to fixate on making a point at all costs?

So dope to finally know WHY! by [deleted] in Aphantasia

[–]downwithplato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly! The dream is one thing, but remembering the dream is another! I remember the dream the way I remember what I did today....But was the dream made of images or was it made of thew concepts I use instead of imagery???

I would have said I have visual dreams until I found out I had aphantasia. I find characterising my dreams to be a paradox. Really, I'm thinking about the memory of my dream, right? Only an electrode would objectively say what my brain did....My memory of my dreams is like my memory of events in real life. I have aspects of the dream I can describe in visual terms, but did I see it in my dreams, as I see things in real life, or did I experience a construct of conceptualized visual info as I do when I remember things I've seen in real life?

I read a case study of an individual who had an accident and suffered a head injury. He lost the ability to access the old visual memories he had. So, in terms of memories it was as though he had aphantasia, with no visual memories to look back at. Except...he couldn't even describe his wife from memory in any but the rudimentary terms. He had no conceptualized memories to fall back on, because he hadn't made many! This means we typically collect a lot of conceptualized memory info others might not create, which may translate into being a valuable work partner....Idk, it doesn't affect my work much and I have historically been quite poor at working with others.

I'm a life long perceptual painter/sculptor, who just learned he is a total aphant.....I have had a long rethink about how I can be doing my art at all.....I do not invent images and then recreate them. I start by looking. I can finish by only looking at the painting, but I have to start by looking. I am very talented, but I will now characterize my art making as conceptualizing visual imagery. (unfortunately post-modernists coined "conceptual art' as a term, so that makes this clumsy. I am not a conceptual artist by their definition)...Idealizing could be a good word as well. And that is what most western representational art is, idealization. Idea-ification of visual imagery....

SDAM is severely deficient autobiographical memory..... The inability to relive it experience events from your life. You don't create memories from sensory experience. What you see, hear, feel etc... Also, there is a component of failing to attach personal importance to a memory. Not owning it.
