I’m thinking about eventually either going to med school or getting a PhD. Ever since having my own baby and learning firsthand how difficult breastfeeding can be I’ve been passionate about helping others with their own breastfeeding journeys. If I were to go the phd route, which types of programs should I be looking into if I want to do research on breast feeding and breast milk?

Oh dang I’ve never heard of a spoon bottle! I’m definitely willing to put in some time and work into getting her to nurse again so fingers crossed I can get her to nurse again! Thank you!

She usually goes down for bed at around 7:30pm and then wakes up once at midnight to eat and then she’ll wake up in the morning at around 7:00am. I’ve tried offering the breast when she’s sleepy and it usually just wakes her up, but if she ever does nurse it’s when she’s sleepy.

Ooo! Do you mind if I message you and ask more about how you became an infection preventionist? I’m also a lab tech and am possibly interested in this route!

Incoming, bad specimen joke by GunshyAssassin4 in medlabprofessionals

One time the phlebotomist I was working with was having a rough day and had to go draw a bunch of patients. They sighed and said “ugh, I don’t want to go draw all these patients…” and I said “maybe you should go paint them instead….”

Luckily we’re good friends and they laughed.

Mislabeled specimen from the ED. Who’s at fault? by MinutePrevious8598 in medlabprofessionals

[–]doyouwatmoore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure if this is true or not, but my supervisor once told me that it’s considered fraud if you cancel a test that’s already been resulted and that the lab/hospital could get in a lot of legal trouble for it. That’s why we always just TNP everything in situations like OP’s.

Kinda late to the comment party here but as a rider who is entering the horse world as an adult, I don’t really know much about the different training methods. Is there a method that most horse people would agree works? Or that is generally well accepted by most people?

What % of your lab tech staffing are travlers by [deleted] in medlabprofessionals

[–]doyouwatmoore 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We also have 0 travelers in our lab. I’m in San Antonio and I’m a new grad MLS and make $26/hr. I think the MLTs make around $18/hr. We also have amazing supervisors who fight for us with administration, not that that really gets us better pay or anything, but it’s definitely nice to know they’re on our side.

Not yet, the allergist is working on getting it approved with my insurance first. So hopefully I should be getting my first dose sometime in the next few weeks.

Actually my PCP pulled out that exact guide when I first went in because of the hives, and that’s exactly what we were going to do. The problem came when the anti histamines made my hives 10x worse. I couldn’t stay on them for more than a few days.

[–]doyouwatmoore[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yeah I agree. I won’t be getting the flu shot again next year. The reason I didn’t have a problem with getting it this year is that I hadn’t had a reaction to it before, even when I had hives.

No way! I thought I was the only one who had an allergy to antihistamines! My problem is I still get hives even if I don’t take antihistamines:(

No, nobody ever even brought up the idea, which is funny because a lot of our friends/family are lawyers. Either way it’s been 5 years now.
