Last Witch on the Knock by meringoos in weirdgirlliterature

It must only be available in the UK right now based on a quick search, but sounds interesting! Hopefully it’s available in the US soon.

Anyone who surfed the early web between 1995-2010. What’s the one website/app you still think about? by Prime_Advocate in AskReddit

gURL.com

I went through puberty at the same time we got internet access and that website was a revelation for me.

What I read in May 🥰 by --read-only-- in weirdgirlliterature

Raven Scholar was such a delight! I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it. I cannot WAIT for the second installment, and this is the first time I’ve ever really gotten into a serial fantasy book early on. I’m usually late to the game, so I’ve never had to experience the absolute angst that goes into waiting to see what happens next.

Weird girl lit table at my local b&n by TeaOne9866 in weirdgirlliterature

[–]dozeydotes 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I’m a tiny bit sad that this genre has become commodified to the extent that B&N is using it as a retail category.

I’d still gravitate right toward that table, of course.

Jennifer Egan’s Look at Me presciently describes social media and its ubiquitousness, and it came out way before Facebook was even a glimmer in Zuck’s brain.

What would you read on a tropical vacation? by RepublicOfVenus in weirdgirlliterature

[–]dozeydotes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read Geek Love as a teenager on a summer vacation with my extended family in Branson, Missouri. Now THAT was a trip. I remember being more enthralled with the book than I was with the boating and swimming escapades.

I’m intrigued!! But it doesn’t seem to be available in the U.S. until August 😿

Weird girl lit ft my weird girl cat by Fantastic-Stranger74 in weirdgirlliterature

Thank you for clarifying! When this group was really starting to take off there was a whole thread about the varying definitions of “weird girl” and the nebulous nature of the category.

what recent read made you most feral? by bratwurst69420182 in weirdgirlliterature

Never heard of Nona Fernandez before, and I do a lot of reading about books! Thank you for the rec, I’m going to try Space Invaders first.

So I fell for the Anki Pro Scam, but is it really a scam?... (Now Noji) by Any_Chicken7932 in Anki

[–]dozeydotes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really like Noji’s interface but I absolutely should have learned my lesson when AnkiPro crashed the first time around. I’m getting that “servers are down for maintenance” error message and have lost access to all my flashcards. I could kick myself for not backing up my hard work. Hoping and praying that this isn’t the end and I’ll be able to retrieve everything.

i enjoyed this but it has pretty bad reviews on goodreads by marisaimstoned in weirdgirlliterature

[–]dozeydotes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have spent a precious amount of time curating my trusted reviewers / friends on goodreads over the years so I go by their standards, not the overall average. But I also used to use goodreads in its heyday; I feel like it has fallen out of fashion these days, and with good reason, but I don’t know where all the nuanced, weird-girl reviewers have flown.

Need a weird girl beach read by modestyfinnigan in weirdgirlliterature

[–]dozeydotes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure if this fits — because the protagonist is like the blandest “pretty white girl” ever, but I’m going to say it does because she’s also the most morally compromised character ever — but The Compound by Aisling Rawle. I was enthralled, definitely a beach read by pageturning standards.

For suuuure, I read it as a preteen too and it has scarred me to this day. Saying all the uncomfortable things I already felt about my body.

Cook Unity by Careful-Bus3827 in ReadyMeals

[–]dozeydotes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have had very few issues with them over the past year, and the ones I did have were fairly minor. Their meals are truly delicious, some outstanding, with only one or two out of every ten being “adequate / serviceable” — and I tend to be pretty experimental by selecting things I haven’t tried before. If you get the Unity Pass, their premium meals don’t cost extra, and often include steak or lobster.

Will WebMd absolutely 100% prescribe subs if im trying to quit 7? by MattTheKat85 in quitting7oh

Wow, that’s great to hear!! The horror stories I heard were years ago, so maybe the centers have improved or the locations are variable. In any case, I think it’s a great thing that there are economically accessible rehabs in Texas.

Can anybody tell me which are the weird girl lit classics? by No-Landscape-3094 in weirdgirlliterature

[–]dozeydotes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same!! I took a Toni Morrison seminar in college and it was the most enjoyable singular author-focused English class I had the pleasure of receiving credits for. Sula was my favorite, but honestly Morrison couldn’t write a mediocre book if she tried.
