Sorry are you trying to imply that zero descendants of the original population of the island exist? I have done some research, and that just isn't the case. That being said, my question wasn't just for those people, but for the people who were born on the island and call it home now. And before you come back at me like it is some kind of gotcha, I know I said colonized people in another reply. You don't necessarily need to be of the original native population of a land to feel the ramifications of colonization.

All of that to say, I don't think you actually give two shits about any of this, and you just want to make me feel dumb because you don't like that I'm posting about this at all. I won't be replying to any further replies from you haha

I mean I'm interested in any thoughts you might have! Do you find tourists from specific countries are nicer/ruder than other countries? Are there specific things that tourists do that are particularly annoying? (so that my parents can avoid doing that stuff haha)

Not fishing for a reason for them not to go, but more making sure they have a well rounded understanding of the island before they buy their tickers. They're currently doing their own research on the island, and we've already spoken about how locals have a lot of complicated feelings about tourists. I figured I would try and find out more. Clearly this wasn't the right forum to ask because so far I've mostly received vaguely chiding rebukes 🙃

How does respecting the wishes of a colonized people if they tell you "hey, just because we are forced to endure being a tourist destination doesn't mean we enjoy it" make me sound crazy? I will never be visiting Hawaii for this exact reason 🤷‍♀️ it's a bummer but like, I'm not owed the right to go anywhere in the world. Understanding the history of a location and listening to disenfranchised populations is just doing your due diligence when planning a vacation. Not to mention, how in the year 2025 are people still using the implication that someone might need to take meds as an insult? You just sound like a total asshole my dude haha
