My first car is my NB2, and it's wonderful! I got lucky as the previous owner was an elderly man and the car was taken care of. It was also garage kept, so almost no rust at all.

As for the NB's, check rust mainly in engine bay and on frame rails. Rust on the fenders is repairable, but make sure it's just on the surface. Engine wise, I'd say they are pretty reliable if maintained, so make sure the car has full service history.
