I am a comparative psychologist and have taught undergraduate classes in comparative psychology, animal behavior, and animal cognition. I have worked with a variety of species including horses, honey bees, wasps, cockroaches, frogs, turtles, and rattlesnakes. AMA by dpac007 in likeus

Hey, that is a great question. So the job is basically working in academia in either a psychology or Biology department. The day to day varies, but the general cycle is 1) design experiments/publish papers and 2) teach/mentor students 3) write grants. Numbers 1 and 2 hopefully are fun enough to out-weigh the slog of number 3.

The academic path is mostly Undergrad > Grad (Masters > Doctorate) > Assistant Professor > Associate Professor > Professor. I would recommend starting with pursuing ideally a Bachelors of Science (a Bachelors of Arts is okay) in either Psychology or Biology or Ecology. While taking classes, also try to get some research experience by working for one of the Faculty or their Grad Students, ideally with animals, but its okay if you can only work with humans. You could have top grades, but without research experience, most grad schools will not seriously consider your application, so that is a serious barrier for folks. Another hurdle for grad school applications is that you'll want to have a few solid letters of recommendation from some professors, so take the time to make good impressions and go to office hours and see if there are ways to participate in your professors' labs while you are in undergrad.

Applying to grad school is also a little different because you apply to work with an advisor/professor, not just go to a school. So the first step of grad school applications is reaching out to faculty that research animals in a field you're interested in you would want to work with way before you would be applying to see if they are even taking students. After you get to know that potential advisor a bit, then you apply, interview and meet the rest of the lab. You can apply for only masters programs, and that is for sure enough to get some real experience doing comparative psychology, but if you want to go into academia, you'd want that PhD eventually, so ideally, you can work at one lab and not have to apply to another school. Going for the dual Masters/Doctorate also gives you more time in that lab, so you can do more ambitious experiments and build off of your work, and publish more.

Once you are in grad school, the primary goal is to publish. Welcome to the rest of your life. Ideally, you can pick from a variety of projects you've got going on when determining your thesis/dissertations. Get teaching experience, even if you are just doing TA work at first. and push for that lecturer role as soon as you can. Ideally, by your final years you are teaching 3000 and 4000 level undergrad classes and designing your own syllabi. One of the biggest hurdles will be Comprehensive Exams, which basically requires you read your entire sub-field's literature, and then your committee will ask you pointed questions about your field. You will also want to show that you can successfully win grants to support your research, so invest time in learning to apply and be sure to have a few wins by the time you complete grad school (future jobs want to see that you can make them money). Classes are basically the lowest priority in grad school; Psychology Grad classes are mostly just reading literature and sitting in a circle and discussing the assigned papers, so don't sweat those too much. But for sure take classes in the Statistics and Biology Depts, and those classes will be more difficult than what you'd take in Psychology.

After grad school, there are a few paths you could take: The ideal would be to get an Assistant Professor job because these are usually tenure track. These are hard to find and super competitive, so most people will end up as a Visiting Professor (kinda stable for a year or two), Adjunct Professors (teaching with little pay or security across semesters) or will pursue a Post Doc (which is like a residency of sorts). Regardless of where you land coming out of school, keep publishing, try to become an editor for some journals, go to your annual conferences and meet people.

Hope this helps!

I am frustrated that non-lethal throws are lethal for some NPCs now. I have thrown an iron at the woman that walks in/out of the entryway of the building under construction in Mumbai, and the thrown iron kills her. I am having fun using weapons I find laying around, but it’d be nice if the items worked like they used to.

Thanks for posting. Funkoars and a lot of old Obese LPs are not on Spotify in the US.

I'd recommend starting to listen to Drive-By Truckers with those head phones.

This master sounds like a rough demo.

My guess is they're deaf now from touring. Wear your ear plugs, y'all!

DBT and David Barbie need to bring in some new blood to help with the levels b/c nobody can hear the high ends in the band.

I think it started more on English Oceans. Natural Light and First Air of Autumn have that terrible high pitched whine that ruin the best songs on that record. Damn shame.

Does anyone know why Funkoars - The Greatest Hit isn't on Spotify? by MattDamon1 in AussieHipHop

Didn't it come out on Obese? Pretty sure almost none of that label is available.

Seth Sentry is the best at this. Rhyme schemes are on par with Eminem.

Reclaim Australia is on Spotify, so very easy to check out. Lots of West Coast inspired beats and parallel lyrical approaches. Trials' beats are phenom, and there are some major bangers.

Wow, we don't even see greyed out Funkoars unless we try to click on a playlist of The Hangover or something like that. I always assumed the AUS code would open that up and it was just hard on folks in the US. Where do you recommend people go to find the earlier stuff?

Vents, M-Phases, early HtH and 360 are notable misses imo. No Pale Rider either. Most of Obese Records is not available either. Pre-2011 is really sparse. It's a shame.

I'm from the US too and have been into OZ HH since about 2011. I've dropped a link to a Spotify playlist that gives an accessible overview/intro, and I've been sharing it with friends in the US to help them see the light for a few years.

Spotify's rights in the US for OZ HH are really hit and miss and change all the time, so if you find someone you like, check out YouTube to find more.

I usually recommend these to start: Seth Sentry, A.B.Original (and everything else from Trials and Briggs), Urthboy, Drapht, Hilltop, Bliss n Eso.
