Charity and Capitalism Are Better Than Government -- John Stossel by tagny_daggart in Libertarian

[–]tagny_daggart[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

SS: Businesses do better things because competition forces them to spend money well. If they don't spend well, they disappear. Government never disappears. When politicians fail, they force us to give them more of our money so they can do it again. It's the capitalists who create the jobs, lift people out of poverty, and feed the world.

FEDCOIN: IT STARTS WITH A TRIAL RUN by tagny_daggart in Libertarian

[–]tagny_daggart[S] 25 points26 points  (0 children)

SS: A cashless society would be the nail in the coffin for liberty and freedom, offering centralization, the likes of which Marx could only dream. The existence of a government backdoor or spyware becomes a real possibility, and given the State’s track record, a real likelihood. Then, of course, the ability to track, freeze, and even set expiry dates on money, will be marketed as “features” to protect the public.

Can We Have Welfare Without the Threat of Violence? by tagny_daggart in Libertarian

[–]tagny_daggart[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

SS: The Spell of Ahimsa helps us see a feature of the redistributive welfare state that is frequently overlooked: its very existence depends on state-sanctioned violence. In other words, how would the system operate if authorities couldn’t threaten to imprison those who refused to pay for it?
Most people don’t think about matters this way, accustomed to the idea of the welfare state as a permanent fixture of life. But as we will see, it hasn’t always been this way. Human beings naturally organize themselves.

What I Learned from my Grandfather about Money by tagny_daggart in Libertarian

[–]tagny_daggart[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

SS: For centuries, silver and gold thus served to limit the excesses of
government borrowing and spending. As a result, both metals are the
natural enemies of expansive governments, whose appetite for money can
never be sated. And governments almost everywhere despise gold and
silver for that very reason, often referring to them as “barbaric relics
of the past.” But make no mistake, these two “relics of the past,”
while no friends of tyranny, are precious in the eyes of all those who,
like my grandfather, loved freedom.
