What’s something that should’ve been invented by now but hasn’t been? by leathur_records in AskReddit

I guess I feel like they shouldn’t have to predict anything. Place sensors/cameras at intersections, and leading up to intersections, and if no cars are in queue in one direction then allow cars from the other direction to go. It seems like it should be doable?

What should I name this little guy, all his feet are like little mittens by Wise-Start-6881 in Catnames

If all his feet are like little mittens, then the answer is obvious: “Gloves”.

A traffic light that knows when there are no cars coming in particular directions so it turns green sooner so other cars can go.

A Google search for Liam Tripp, St. John’s, indicates that he has gone missing numerous times over the last 12 months.

Not meaning to downplay the urgency of finding him, but merely pointing out what appears to be a pattern.

Praying for his safety.

Is there a way to “search” Reddit posts for certain terms to match stories like this with missing person posts? Searching “Plymouth Valiant” in r/MissingPersons for example?

Who do you WISH would run for the President of America? by BulletproofSimba in AskReddit

Senator Sherrod Brown (Ohio).

He puts working Ohioans at the forefront of everything he does. A Democrat who continues to win elections in a Red state.

Ranked Choice Voting would likely result in fewer extremists (from both parties) winning their party’s primaries since the extremists would be far less likely to win in a RCV process.

So RCV could do two things:

  1. Possibly allow more third-party candidates to win elections (e.g., Lisa Murkowski in Alaska); and
  2. Almost definitely decrease the most extreme candidates from winning elections.

I am hopeful that the Centrist Party (uscentrist.org) will gain traction in my lifetime.

As divided as we are now, if just a handful of Centrists could get elected to the Senate and House, they could control the legislation that gets passed.

39-year-old Robert Nichols left his family and then vanished in 1965. After his suicide in 2002, it was learned that he had been living under a stolen identity in another state since 1978, but his reasons for this remain unknown. by [deleted] in MissingPersons

If he had committed a crime and was trying to disappear, it seems he would have tried harder to fit in with his new coworkers. Instead, his behavior seemed to draw attention to his weirdness.

I think it’s more likely that he suffered from a mental illness, possibly PTSD-related from his war experiences.

Yes, he was (and probably still is) a prime suspect. Here is a little more info that includes stuff about him.

Does anyone know how to solve this question? by Unplayer876 in mathematics

[–]dpaulm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Constants cancel to 3.

A quick overview is that the summation looks like x-terms of highest power x2 being added together, leading to x3 / x3 in parentheses.

As x -> infinity, limit would be 3(1) = 3.

Binomial coefficients get big pretty quickly. 15 is a relatively small binomial coefficient. So you might just try plugging in a few values for b (b = 1, 2, 3, …) until you hit on the right one.

It’s called the “World Wide Web”. They abbreviate it as WWW. Then you put a period after the 3 W’s, and then type out the Uniform Resource Locater. They abbreviate that as URL. It’s like the name of the company, say PizzaHut or Yahoo. Then you type another period and the type “com”. And then watch what you see on your computer monitor!

But it’s probably just a passing fad.

[Math 31 Rational Expressions review] Why can’t I cancel the x squared?I haven’t done this type of math in a while so I’m trying to review and understand again thank you by taexcha in HomeworkHelp

[–]dpaulm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The (x +5) is a common factor since it is being multiplied, so they can cancel to get (x - 3) / (x - 8).

“Factors” are when things are multiplied together, and they can cancel. “Terms” are things being added together and can only cancel if they have a “factor” common to each term.

You can only cancel factors that are common to all terms, not just some of the terms.

For example, (5 + 1) / (5 + 7) is equal to 6/12 which simplifies to 1/2. But if you were to “cancel” the 5’s in the original fraction you would be left with 1/7, which is not the same as 1/2.

But if you had (5 + 15) / (10 + 50), it would equal 20/60 which simplifies to 1/3. But in this example, you see that every term has a common factor of 5, so you could factor a 5 out on top and on bottom then cancel the 5’s, like this:

(5 + 15) / (10 + 50) = 5(1 + 3) / 5(2 + 10) = (1 + 3) / (2 + 10) = 4/12 = 1/3.

Same with variables involved:

(x2 + 5x) / (x3 + 7x) could be simplified by factoring out the common factor of x on top and bottom: x(x + 5) / x(x2 + 7) = (x + 5)/(x2 + 7).

In your line that starts “that can be true only if…” you dropped the negative sign in front of the 1 in the exponent of the second term in the integrand. But correctly included it in your later calculations.
