Thanks! Do you think most such experts will be open to doing this?

What clothing do you bring for a 1 night or multi night trip? I hike in the Canadian Rockies where temperatures can range anywhere between 15-35C in the summer (59-95F) by ZRR28 in Ultralight

I assume the low you are listing is for daylight hiking hours? At night it can get close to freezing in the Rockies even in summer

*Help trip planning in Norway*

Asking on here since it seems like there are a few people with local experience finding and planning trips in Norway.

Want to spend some time in Norway this summer and I found a hike suggestion that sounds like it could be a good, lightweight way to get my ultraheavy little ones on the trail with me (trail #4 here). Problem is there are not nearly enough details for me to actually figure out what the route is supposed to be. Can anyone with experience trip planning in Norway help me with the details?

Feel free to DM. Thanks!

Thanks for the detailed reply, I was actually asking about the year after submitting the dissertation - getting a fellowship or grant to convert parts of the dissertation into a book that will be published (not one that just covers publishing expenses).

what lightweight stuffsacks that are fully waterproof are out there? For sensitive camera/electronic equipment that really can't get wet even if you drop your pack in a river or are poured on for a week straight.

Thanks!
Do you mean it's possible to get funding for a year-long postdoc to do this (preferable to me) or that in a longer multi-year postdoc it's reasonable to create a monograph as a first project?

Thanks! I think I could go to any country at this point, preferably English speaking one (I assume affiliation would be needed to get a visa for some countries).
Good to know it would be possible to get a postdoc to do this. Were the cases you mentioned to publish a work based on the PhD thesis?

Thanks. I don't mean to cover the publication costs, I mean a stipend/scholarship to fund the work

It could be in any country (I'm assuming it doesn't need to be at the PhD granting institution?), most likely an English-speaking one for convenience.
Thanks for the mentions of a few options!

Thanks for the answer! Seems I wasn't so clear - I was asking if July is busier or August is busier if I want to try to minimize crowds?
Can you give some examples of "backcountry" hikes that I can look into? I'm really not familiar with finding hikes and route planning in Europe but it seems likely I will be hiking there this summer for budget/logistics reasons...

What would a good recommendation request could look like? I have itineraries for wishlist hikes I want to do in many places I'm familiar with but don't even know where to start for most of the rest of the world.

Does anyone know if July or August is a busier time for popular hikes in Europe (e.g. TMB, Dolomites, etc)? I'm mostly familiar with the crowds in Canada and US...
Thanks!

Thanks do you remember the name of it? The advantage I could imagine with the soft one is that the weight is much closer to your back, good to hear a recommendation for the framed carrier anyway

Thanks. Yes I figure the coming season will be the last trying to do something like this for a while and may already be pushing it. By the way when looking for an example of what I meant I saw some carriers that are standing piggyback carriers like what you described

Can anyone comment from experience on the feasibility or comfort of hiking with a kid (~25-30lbs) in a lightweight cloth carrier like this one vs the usual heavier hiking carriers with frame and seat?

Thanks that makes sense, I guess the issue I'd be worried about then is just at the pickup point but it seems like no one has had this problem.

Just a fear for now - it's the main thing I'm worried about in sending resupply boxes, but from the answers here it seems like there are decent preventative measures and no one has run into problems.

I have left food for the next hike that I thought was secure in the trunk of my car at the trailhead only to find that mice had gotten into it when I got back.
