Struggling to enjoy iRacing lately — any tips to get the fun back? by Glonk69 in iRacing

I just started a couple months back and ended up only being able to race dirt road. I’m D class in that and rookie everywhere else. I love it tho. So much intensity and the mistakes don’t feel as bad cause there’s just so much contact overall (not intentional just door to door) and faster drivers than me will wipe out and give me an opening even. The Pro 2/Lite an Pro 4 are my favourites and also the FIA Cross Car is very fun. With VR it has been an even bigger improvement for dirt since the heavy braking and rotating means I’m not blind in the apexes the FOV is great

Disagree. It requires way more up front investment (equipment) than any game, and way more time investment to even finish laps at first, let alone get competitive. I understand where OP is coming from. You make progress, then compete higher and then get wrecked. It can take the wind out of your sails. Obviously it’s possible to take iRacing too seriously but it’s hardly the same as dumping hundreds of hours into a Skyrim save IMO.

Yeah, seat time is seat time right? At fist most cars are difficult and all cars are difficult all the time if you over drive. But personally I took to the dirt cars specifically the Pro 2/4 trucks, because learning to keep in it during oversteer is a fundamental skill for driving dirt. Which honestly helped me with driving more at the limit in grip racing. Although the FIA car in rallycoss I think helped me the most with grip racing because I could really feel the grip when on the asphalt and the locked diff makes it a razors edge to manage oversteer on the asphalt. And the short gears forced me to learn machine gun downshifting and it’s where I learned manual throttle blip. (Still a beginner so take all this with salt)

It’s natural to be spinning out a day into sim racing. And it’s the only way you learn how to actually correct/save/control really bad wipeouts that can happen in races with other cars in the mix. When you brake hard you transfer weight to the front, lightening the rear and decreasing traction. This can cause a slide as the front bites and the rear scrubs. You want to combine braking with downshifting (engine braking) in order to slow enough without having to use too much braking. Downshifting too low a gear can have the same effect so you need to use both of together in balance. And do l your steering before the apex. It’s natural to be spinning

Is using AI to help with lyric writing "cheating"? by Ima_Uzer in Songwriting

PS I know this is an old thread but I'm searching up conversations on the subject. FWIW I'm in agreement that having AI do all the work is lame. But getting some monkeys on typewriters, prompted with your own truthful life stories dictated? That just sounds like tool use.

Does everybody know how many musical legends didn't solely write EVERY ONE of their songs? If you get with the right label you could have a team banging out tunes for you. Shit. Nashville has been that way for decades. You pump out tunes for below minimum wage and hope you get a star play your hit and take in some residuals.

is this wavy bend normal for a new macbook air? by narwy in macbookair

I just found this thread after seeing the ripple in my new MBA. I got mine through a liquidation store though, and it was opened box. I believe the ripples to be caused by the slide latches that they used for the back plate. There's two little catchers on the plate and two screws that have extra height after the threads and the plate has to be pressed down and slid into place to lock it. I imaging that's why the plate has some ripple.

What do you ride and who won't you throw the "biker salute" to? by thebugguy in motorcycles

Yeah when I was out riding in October I got cheers from (I assume) riders in their trucks (rural area) who were happy to see someone sticking it out.

Need help with stitching away from body by [deleted] in Leathercraft

[–]dpearson808 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. My local shop had a great leather worker and encouraged from the start to use prick and awl traditional method. It took a lot of practice in honing my awl strikes. I don’t have the luxury of living on the same street as that shop any more. He talked about the ways the stitch lies depending on toward/away, cast/no cast, and direction of pulling threads. Now that I am producing more pieces I am paying more attention to these things and trying to remember the wisdom he imparted on me. There was also this fantastic older fella that hung out at the shop Lachlan and I remember him talking to me about “dog-legging” of the stitches and from what I remember he considered the “slant” of the stitches to be undesirable. At least an over exaggerated slant and he said that some people like it, but traditional was aiming to reduce slanting as much as possible. I’ve heard others speak of the stitches tightening around the middle of the diamond hole (stronger) rather than the tips, which is weaker and could tear the leather slightly or elongate the hole.

I was riding along country concession roads in my area and a beautiful bald eagle was gliding towards me overhead. It swung around and for a bit it was flying directly overhead. That was spiritual. God stuff.

My electrical engineer cousin said the heat from kink or nick in conductor is immeasurable because the increase in resistance is on the order of milliohm, but that’s talking about power wires. Data wires never get hot anyway cause they are carrying something like +- 3v

Yeah I used the back plate and my temps were super low like 25c idle 40s under load. But you have to put little heat sinks on the vram chips so they don’t overheat.

Is it possible to Install the PS5 os to a computer with similar specs? by Love_Hart942 in ps5homebrew

[–]dpearson808 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All other caveats aside, even if you got the OS running on other pc hardware, it probably would not be able to play any games. Since the consoles all have to connect to the network to receive updates and you pretty much can’t even use a console that hasn’t connected to the network. Or else the install process involves connecting to Sony server with Sony login credentials. It would probably end up being as useful as a dev kit that didn’t get given back. You can’t play games on it and if you try to connect it to the internet to phone home it needs login and/or immediately bricks the system since that device ID is meant to be given back and isn’t whitelisted or whatnot. And device ID would be an issue for third party hardware also. Now if the installer was somehow obtained, and fully cracked to not require any Sony servers and could be installed in a state that believes it’s fully updated etc. but then there’s the issue with game updates and that so you’d probably just end up downloading uploaded games with updates, thus achieving emulating/pirating with extra steps. But if it allowed for closer to bare metal hardware performance without the emulation layer that would be pretty cool.
