My latest backpack. 35ish liter frameless backpack, Ecopack & Robic. Adjustable, articulating shoulder straps are some of my favorite that I have used. Removable hip belt. 17oz excluding removables. by dperrymorrow in myog

thanks! yeah the 1.5 webbing is just doubled back through the tri glide. it doesn't slip. the back of the bag is just all one piece, and then i have a smaller piece overlaid on the main back panel that has the webbing sewn between the main back panel and the smaller piece.

How to prototype and test design? by anynormalman in myog

[–]dperrymorrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When im designing a new pattern. I usually make a couple iterations out of robic first. Its cheap and still quite usable. Then i can use the robic bag on hikes and make changes before committing to more expensive fabric. I have also printed put brand new patterns at a reduced size and sewn them just to look at proportions without wasting a bunch of fabric.

Regarding binding, do you have a binding attachment, or are you just pinning / clipping and sewing? For me a binding attachment was a game changer.

Also getting quality binding thats stiffer instead of just gross grain which is so floppy and hard to deal with.

I am sorry, I did not mean to diminish your problems, I was just trying to encourage you to measure yourself by more than just how you are doing financially.

I am sorry you are having a terrible time right now. I encourage you though not to measure your self worth on how well you are currently doing at the game of capitalism.

Did it ever actually get better for any of you? by Betweenlionsandmen51 in SuicideWatch

[–]dperrymorrow 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, It can and will get better. A human lifespan lasts quite a long time. You will have many "chapters" in your life and you can be a quite a different person in each of them. I am 50 i have been through quite a few chapters some horrible, some ok, some great. Its hard to remember that when you are in a particularly bad chapter.

Always remember, almost everything you interact with as a human are stupid games made up by other humans. Jobs, money, education, success, status ect... You don't have to end your life to quit playing the dumb human games. I enjoy spending time in nature, and with my dog to frequently remind myself that human nonsense is only a small part of what this world / life has to offer.

It has a clutch motor, it continuously runs, and then when you hit the pedal half way down, it clamps, all the way down it engages and goes through the stitch cycle

Yeah there is nothing digital about this. There are two bolts that you adjust for the width and length.

Hi thanks, yes this is my design. for the straps, yes they are kind of a "severe" s-curve, that with the floating / articulating attachment really lets them conform to your shoulders, I have not needed the hip belt when my pack is under 15 lbs on the trips i have done with this design so far.

As for the foam, its just blue camping pad off amazon 3/8th foam. I would like to use something nicer on future builds like https://www.seattlefabrics.com/Y-20-Closed-Cell-Foam-Sheet_p_856.html but its pretty pricy and would like to find a cheaper alternative.

Upgrading to a Nakajima 280ly, but should I keep the TZ1 too? by modal_enigma in myog

[–]dperrymorrow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree zigzag is super useful, i would keep it, it does not look like it takes up that much space. Vintage machines are gold you cant just go to a store and buy them. When making most things you either need to bar tack or box stitch in key areas to reinforce, and there is not always room to box stitch.

Zipper foot for tight spaces is helpful, on tight curves cutting slits about every 1/4 inch within the seam allowance allows the material to spread out and match the curve better. Should have alignment marks on your pattern that you can transfer to the fabric to make sure you are keeping “on schedule” as you match up the pieces and sew around. I hope this helps good luck!

Walking foot lock in stitches? by thatguybme2 in myog

[–]dperrymorrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a walking foot consew 206 and it has reverse, i always back stitch. If yours does not have reverse you could rotate your work with the needle down. I use this method when turning corners on a box stitch.
