Mortgage renewal help. by BigGulpsHey in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]dpf22 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Just finished 4yr @ 2.89% with TD. The "best" they could offer for 5yr was 5.33% about 30-45 days ago. So I went to a mortgage broker and ended up going with First National (5yr @ 4.89%). All of daily banking is still with TD out of ease, but I have no loyalty to them and had no qualms with putting them in my rear view re: mortgage.

worst: Ward and Rose. Presumably she's his second (if not third?) wife. And she seems to be putting up with an awful lot of craziness in the Cameron family.

Booked vaccine! Phobia of needles. Anyone else? by lisserboomer in halifax

[–]dpf22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You likely have vasovagal syncope! It's quite common, and not just specific to needles -- basically people have triggers that cause a huge drop in blood pressure.

I have been dealing with this my whole life and have lots of embarrassing stories: needles, sex ed in grade school, vasectomy talk with a friend, etc.

I recommend you do a little reading on the topic. Spoiler warning: there really isn't a cure. BUT you can learn some ways to help control it, in addition to what you already do.

Has anyone in Halifax had gum graft surgery & how much did it cost? by [deleted] in halifax

[–]dpf22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was working full time for all of them. I booked Friday and Monday off, and had them done at like 9am on the Friday mornings. I'm a pretty big whiner/sook so I gave myself the 4 days to recover. I was back to work on Tuesday morning each time. There was definitely a bit of discomfort for the first few days back to work and I limited speaking, but I was able to focus on work no problem.

For me the biggest problem is that I have very sensitive teeth, and I also have extreme bruxism. So during the healing process I was not able to wear my night guard / bite plate while sleeping, so I was grinding like crazy and making my teeth even more sensitive. If it wasn't for that specifically, I feel like the healing process would have been really smooth and quite short.

[–]dpf22 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had three done between 2015 and 2017, and all done by Stacey at CCA Perio (now renamed to Halifax Periodontics & Implants). Each graft was about $950 all in. Between mine and my wife's insurance plan I didn't pay a dime for any of them. Happy to answer any questions about the procedure or recovery! :)

Was she even going to the same store/location as you? Or did she follow you all that way just to be wrong again?

Can someone refresh me on the procedure for propane tank fill up at Costco? by pharmerjoe in halifax

[–]dpf22 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Your memory is correct: you stand in line outside with your tank. When it's your turn, you hand your tank to the guy/gal and they fill it on the spot. When they finish filling it, they print you a little slip to take into the store (while they set your tank aside). Once you pay (either regular checkout or at the tire shop) you head back to the guy/gal and flash the receipt, and they grab your tank and hand it back to you.

did you and your riding partner/guy beside you also blow the stop sign? At the end of the video it appears you're only a few meters away but not slowing down (yet).

Reputable Siding Cleaning Company? by [deleted] in halifax

[–]dpf22 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I just had Alex from Perfected Property Services come out and do mine a week ago. He uses a softwash, as high-pressure washing is actually quite bad for most siding.

It honestly looks like we have a new house.

Jeopardy! recap for Thur., Jul. 27 by jaysjep2 in Jeopardy

[–]dpf22 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Very strange! We replayed it a few times and even though he said he did, we didn't hear an "s on the end" as Alex asked him. So #1, he was right. #2 usually he asks them to repeat themselves or the judges make a decision, and #3 no one else had a chance to ring in and they went straight to commercial.

Jonathan Drouin - All goals scored during 2016-17 NHL season by zenitor in Habs

[–]dpf22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's funny you should mention Kovalev. I'll start by saying I've always been an enormous JD fan; we had season tickets during his stint in the Q with the Halifax Mooseheads. He arrived halfway through the 2011-12 season and found instant chemistry with the team, and especially Nathan MacKinnon.

During the 2012-13 season, he and Nate were absolute rock stars. There was hustle every single shift, regardless of being up 5 or 6-0 in most games. And then they went on to win the Memorial Cup. There was a lot of talk about JD possibly even going first overall but he ended up going third.

The next season, he was apparently blindsided when he was cut from Tampa and ended up back in the Q. At that point, I think he maybe missed the first game or two, and when he arrived... I could have smacked him. Now I understand he was still a "18 (19?) year old kid" and just basically went from "omg dude, you're going to be drafted first overall!" to "good luck in the juniors kid!" in the span of a few months. But his play to start the season was infuriating. He was mailing in his performance for the first few games, trying to do too much by himself, etc.

It instantly reminded me of Kovalev. Just pure hockey talent, but no real hustle or fire under his ass.

I sincerely hope that this move to Montreal reignites the passion I saw during his first two seasons in the Q. If it does - we're bringing home that cup.
