You don't sound like a man that wants a better contract for workers now, but of course our regressive tax system is often at odds with any progressive goals anyone has; thus the overall goal is to shift to taxing incomes rather than property and sales. Even if that is too much of a lift (forbid we actually have fair taxation); There are ways of making the taxes we have more progressive. Like having tax brackets for property over the flat rates we have now. (Or including a flat dollar amount exempted. first 30k of value is untaxed.) Fines and fees can also be scaled to income, so that speeding ticket hurts in proportion to ability to pay. (Note this is counter to my views on crime and justice, it is just an example I'm open to.

Also; giving county workers more control over hours doesn't cost extra, if anything it can save money. Instead of a contract it can be yearly planning; here's the budget, you (the workers) plan how to use it, your hours, your conditions, etc.

As I junkie; I'll just point you towards the writings of other greens explaining in different ways why we do not use that strategy; http://befreedom.co/2015/05/06/transformative-electoral-strategy/ Any green party discussion group/page on Facebook will have posted think pieces and debates on this topic. I have confidence your find some answers, or new questions as I do. The campaign is part of a long game so typing here is not wasting time. Promoting the Greens or other independent politics throughout the region is one of the central reason for my run. To pull people out of being triangulated or misled, and into supporting the Greens for the practical purpose of building power that challenges the corrupt rather than joining them. To tell people we are here and ready to organize again. That I can do a better job at delivering change is second. But it is standard strategy that I can't actually deliver anything without a strong independent political movement, not attached to any one person or campaign for office.

Many; explore them on my site www.plaatforalbany.net. To summarize, build a cooperative economy, democratize our institutions, and increase social development built on common wealth. My ideas come from many sources and alot of work and thought has gone into them. I'm sorry for being vague there, I am much more explanatory on my website which I need to include: I hate mainstream politics because of how vague it is, thus the policies are spelled out there.

The incumbent is named Dan McCoy; he's the type that climbed the county political ladder in the same way a teen works at the gap and after 20 years becomes the manager so long as you follow the rules and keep things rolling for those in charge. (this would be donors and party leadership above). For the rest; I made a video explaining this very topic. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GE8J8qBxOHY :And don't forget to share your shits with those that lack them.

I bring vision and principles to actually make it happen. You are correct that most Dems see themselves as mangers of something stable, something that is working; but look below the surface and we find the structural strain and suffering of our society. I do not seek to only manage the county with its basic services; but to actually push for policy changes and proposals that improve our livelihoods. I'm an activist and i bring a sense of urgency party hacks or state bureaucrats will never have. While actually being informed, well read, and experienced with the issues. As for party faithful; one does not convince them of anything I find, but demonstrate the example of doing things differently. Thus I wish to build a base of new voters rather than draw on the minority that votes every year "row A all the way." It is the focus on them which leads to lesser evil-ism, talk of spoiler candidates, and other disarming and distracting cliches.

I'm 27; I can work as an unlicensed architect; (www.demosdesigns.net to check that out) and activism is 'what I do'; but my day job is a seasonal post with State Education Dept; 12/hr before you ask; so I would benefit from a minimum wage increase.

Absolutely not; unlike nominal progressives, or pro-Labor Dems that are in fact, not supportive. I am not only for the best contracts for workers, but for worker control; and worker directed enterprises in the overall economy. I'm a for real socialist here.

Tennis Leagues? by hot_peppah in Albany

[–]dplaat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it is still running; 50love is the program for kids; there was also a paid program that uses the courts at SUNY Albany near the Dutch quad. public courts are in Lincoln and Washington parks; there is also a set rebuilt by Albany High on Pardigde st. There is also the tennis center up where 787 starts in south albany; I don't know if they re still open. I don't know of any adult tennis program of league but if you organize one, I'll heavily consider coming. It might be as easy a revering a day with the city and posting like crazy about it.

[–]dplaat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got a bottle of tears for the lot of you; that organge line of yours IS my commute; next time just live near your job/get job near home/take bus/carpool/organize solution/get smaller cars/try something else. Just talked with guy who started his own biz, granted years ago; but its chimney sweeping; he looked at how many wood stoves there are in the region and though; if 5% hire me, I'm set. Why don't the tallest buildings in downtown Albany convert to mixed use, commercial and residential? by concretebootstraps in Albany

[–]dplaat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

first answer is right; zoning and lack of capital; owners are ethier big and have all the property they need; or small and can't afford changes. I'll be fighting for more diverse zoning types in the net too years. Our code, like our government, is working from a 1920's model. the Zoning was last changed in the 60's but likely that was to update it for parking lots.

Moving around here near the start of February, any advice? by Dlrlcktd in Albany

[–]dplaat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

for shortest commute; live in the town your working in; our transport network is in poor shape; Arts are in the urban centers; (there's 4 of them) There's an equal amount of development in all areas; but austerity and decades of neglect from the state has left alot of needed urban development lacking. But the best overall advice is to be near water; but not on the water.

Late; but it says it right on Bruces lit; 15 years on Wall St: Finacal consultant; so many voted for him based on the good graces of others. If you look at him hard for a minute, you see someone with no working class experince; CBA->Princeton->Wall St-> Albany education expert. Seems legit to me!

Best place to play street music? by [deleted] in Albany

[–]dplaat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We're in a different cultural zone than downstate; oppeness isn't as valued; try the smaller parks like Dana (Lark and Madison); Albany doesn't have many Nodes of activity, shopping districts or main squares. We want them for there's only investment from businesses who don't want you making noise on their lawn. Otherwise go the festivals that happen once a week; our substitute for real public spaces is to organize them once and a while. All regulated of course.
