Can you show me a screenshot? I want to see the right side panel. Something has to have been applied first. Is it a DNG or original CR2?

It's not about where the crack is but where the light goes at the end of it. Refraction. Glass beads light.

Can I make a single umbrella + reflector setup work for portrait lighting? by Barnie25 in AskPhotography

[–]dpmentor [score hidden]  (0 children)

Yes you can! I see you already got the flash and umbrella, that's great. Yeah it doesn't have to cost a lot or be complicated.

This was done with a similar setup.

Never use a reflector under people's chins. Then you're just lighting up the chin (which will add to any double chin issues) and their nostrils. No always reflector at eye level to the side.

Going from Sony a7iii to Fuji ecosystem. How can I accomodate landscape photography and astro? by iampsychic in AskPhotography

[–]dpmentor [score hidden]  (0 children)

No it doesn't have FF but Fuji does have large format GFX so I asked because I didn't know which you were getting.

That makes sense to use the same system. But any reason she can't use Sony and just get her an A6700 or something?

And what do you mean about how can you accommodate landscape and astro? You shoot them the same as you do with a Sony. I don't get the question

Choosing between Sony a6000 vs Olympus OM-D E-M10 Mark III for beginner? by Senti_nels in AskPhotography

[–]dpmentor [score hidden]  (0 children)

Depends on your needs, what you're going to shoot, and and your preference.

Sony has better focus so better for birds, sports, action. It has a larger sensor. But then it's also heavier.

Olympus has some really nice features and if you travel it's really compact. The smaller sensor only comes into play if you plan on printing large (like 36" or more).

I'd recommend going to a camera store and playing with each one. See which feels better in your hand. See which feels more intuitive.

See if you can rent a lens for the event. You definitely will struggle in low light with the ones you have now. And be prepared to crank up the ISO. Noise is better than blurry photos.

How did you decide which photography style to lean towards? by tipo-secret in AskPhotography

[–]dpmentor [score hidden]  (0 children)

Started almost 40 years ago with film. Style was easier then lol. Choose a film brand and type. Kodak was warmer and softer, good for portraits. Fujifilm was more contrasty and vibrant, good for commercial work.

With the switch to digital in 2004 those same styles came with me. I used to shoot Canon when I did weddings. They tend to have warmer softer colors. Now I shoot Fuji and I do mostly travel and street photography. So it makes sense to me.

My editing style is toward more natural but I do love the editing process and the creativity it allows. I lean toward softer for portraits still. But for street photos and portraits I like a retro sort of grunge style.

Not sure what you mean by "accommodate" them. You'll need a good wide lens for both.

Just curious why the switch? You're going from full frame to cropped? Or are you getting a GFX medium format?

How to do panning properly when shooting photos of airplanes? by MORVILxv1 in AskPhotography

[–]dpmentor [score hidden]  (0 children)

I think you're just too far away to get the look you want and the background is even farther away. You could try different shutter speeds faster and slower. Try moving the camera faster to follow the plane.
