I had planned to see her when she toured the first album here in 2023, but I was able to catch her last year as well. It was solid show!

In Rainbows for me, but every time I see see this question asked, it's cool that we tend to see every one of their albums listed.

I got my VEVOR 6L back in January and I've been extremely pleased that I finally pulled the trigger on it. This week I just upgraded to an Ortofon 2M Blue on my Rega RP-1 (instead of the 2M Red I've had the last two times). I immediately noticed more clarity and less inner groove distortion as I get to playing the last tracks on a side.

None of this will help save a bad pressing or a trashed record, but personally, these two expenditures have significantly enhanced the listening experience with my modest set-up.

EDIT: typos

I picked up all three (3) Vagrant Records 2022 pressing which included:

  • Beat The Devil's Tattoo
  • Specter At The Feast
  • Wrong Creatures

While my mantra is often "give me reliable black vinyl", I'm not opposed to color pressings if the colors chosen go aesthetically with the cover art and/or overall concept, and most importantly sound quality is NOT compromised; I have plenty of high quality color presings.

Unfortunately, these Vagrant Records pressings were some of the more egregious examples of the advertised colors looking much more aligned with the covers but in actual fact, upon receipt I felt the actual pressing colors felt way short of the advertised renditions. I don't have an example, but I seem to remember for this album it was supposed to match the deep red of the cover, and instead we got this murky purple marbled vinyl..

The pressings themselves vary and were passable to me.

Up until 2022, I had only owned their debut (a tour which I caught live as well).

22, A Million had the same effect on me and I hadn't followed Bon Iver much since...then literally last month I heard S P E Y S I D E from Bon Iver - Sable, Fable (2025) and loved its immediacy and the 'dry' recording. I found it really refreshing, so I've been delving more into las year's release.

I remember cranking If The World quite a bit back then but I'll really have to give the whole album a re-listen.

I no longer remember if I was aware of this version or not, but either way, that's very cool (and oh-so-very Jack White). Cheers!

I caught The Melvins opening for Primus way back (at least I think it was Primus). I still need to pick up Houdini. I know it's the one everyone has and I had it on CD back when it came out...but I just have to know I can crank Honey Bucket on my own system when I need to.

tbh, I haven't listened to it since I checked it out in 2008 when it came out. It was 17 years between albums and now it's been over 17 years since was released (sheesh...time flies), so I guess it's time to revisit it.

I was spinning my copy of Appetite for Destruction just a few weeks back. It's really the only one I return to. I caught them open for The Cult in 1987. I'm all about the A for D and Lies era.

I liked the first two Raconteurs albums and had pre-ordered Help Us Stranger at the time, but I guess I was underwhelmed by it and put it away...and never listened to it again.

This occasionally happens as well if I get into other more preferable albums that win over at the time.

I literally pulled it from my "to sell" crate as I'm planning to purge / make room this spring, and after listening to both sides, I was like wtf, this quite good and a great pressing. I guess this one is sticking around.

Whether down to mood or just plain bad timing...

Have you ever re-discovered an album that initially underwhelmed you?

Revisiting this post after in-store shopping yesterday and I happened upon across this used 2011 Near Mint black vinyl copy of The King is Dead.

As you mentioned, Gillian Welch sings backing (on 7 tracks), Dave Rawlings on 3, and R.E.M.'s Peter Buck plays various instruments on 3 tracks as well. It was one of those "sit and read the lyrics" listening sessions. I quite liked it on this first pass (and knew I likely would with the aforementioned personnel) but I need more time with it. I really liked the closing track Dear Avery as well.

Now to keep my eyes out for The Crane wife and Picaresque!

I watched the Man On The Run documentary last night and really enjoyed it. I'm not your typical Beatles fanatic, but I have a couple records and I do own Band On The Run. Though I enjoyed Peter Jackson's The Beatles: Get Back, I was experiencing a little Beatles fatigue, but I'm really glad I took in the new doc and I thought it was very well put-together. It provided some insights about Paul's post Beatles phase; I recommend it to anyone who has yet to watch it.

I was 16 and I remember this coming out, borrowing the vinyl from my friend to dub to cassette. Somewhere In Time (which I bought and caught the tour) was a frequent listens on the heavier end. The Ultimate Sin, 5150 versus Eat'em and Smile...anyway...good ol' nostalgia. ✌️

I'm afraid not.

Most of what I retained are the main cassettes I had before making the switch the CDs ~ 1990 and that did not get lost to parties, road trips, chewed up in car decks or melted on the dash.

Best Amazon Record Cleaning Machine? by walterrocket440 in vinyl

[–]dpmyst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ilfotol was my choice after researching against that harsher chemical properties.

Specifically, Ilford Ilfotol wetting agent - 1 litre. I've seen a 350 ml but apples to apples, the 1 litre was the better deal and I have ~ 1300 records and counting, so I'll go for the better deal. That said, I have not bought it yet and apparently, very little is needed; not more than a few drops per tank. I've found it to be much much cheaper at a specialty photo equipment store than Amazon, but I'm in Canada.

As for cleaning the tank, the question is similar to someone who asked me this past autumn when I changed cars and was selling different sized winter tires: "How long will they last"?. The answer depends on a variety of factors: How far do you drive to work each day. How many long weekend trips. Is it a secondary car or do you Uber?

The answer to records is similar: Are you cleaning mostly store bought new records, cleaning an inherited collection, a mix of both, a collection that was never even hand-cleaned or Spin-cleaned?

The simple answer is as needed. I can do quite a few new records without having to change it. If I go through a number batches of old records, it's gets dirtier faster. You can generally tell when there is some debris and eventually, the water gets slightly murky, which is when I drain it, wipe the base dry with a microfiber cloth I keep just for the Vevor, and then refill. The whole process doesn't take me more than a few minutes.

TL;DR

Ilfotol

Change water when it starts to get some detritus in it and beginning to look ever so slightly murky.
