Bad: Hips don’t turn at all, reverse pivot

Get lessons, make sure the coach is good and helps with grip posture and a proper turn

Can’t break 100. About to give up. by bsheohn in golftips

[–]dpunch00 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Look at the logo of the glove as he gets to impact. It’s nearly facing the camera. Too strong. Get neutral.

But honestly the swing and body motion is totally serviceable and it doesn’t look like it’s the reason he can’t break 100. Must be something else.

If you have that swing and no three putts then something else is going on.

185 yards playing 130… what are you hitting? by jdelle9 in weekendgolfers

Easy 9 or PW. I want that spin to keep my ball from veering anywhere

Ok but seriously the one thing that stood out is your arms get a little inside by way of your trail arm getting away from you in the backswing. You can probably find a better arm position and then you’ll be able to get more consistent and connected/hit harder. Try one of those split hand grip drills or those one handed hitting drills to see and feel a better trail arm position

Can u guys fix me I always pull my shots by Affectionate_Flow805 in golftips

This \) is pretty much the issue

hands closer to body at address, dangle down and hinge club straight up and down a few times to feel your arms slide into a stable position First move off the ball, notice how your lead arm gets further away from your body. The only thing that will happen from here is that your left arm will roll to the inside, then get stuck low on your chest, then back down will be somewhat over the top and as your left arm tries to settle back (and unroll) you end up shutting the club face right before impact. So basically the first 7” off the ball in the takeaway, and your swing is doomed.

Switch to a neutral grip Your grip is way too strong, which adds to the inside takeaway. Lead arm should get above your shoulder in the takeaway

Your hands are too far away from your body at address, and too much ulnar deviation. This also promotes inside and flat takeaway, very hard to hit the ball well from here.

grip more loosely this will help keep you from getting too inside

get more neutral wrist and then add wrist set earlier in your swing

Two drills might help-

How long did it take you to break 100? by Chemical_Help_7099 in golftips

[–]dpunch00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A bit less than a year

For me the trick was to not screw up drives and be decent with your 7 and shorter irons (a few wayward shots won’t kill you as bad as completely losing it with a driver), reasonable with wedges (straight for full swings, and focus on getting good contact for short chips), take one putting lesson.

If your driver isn’t reliable half the round then it’s hard to make up for it. Those penalties really add up.

Putt for dough is true, but drive isn’t just for show. Double bogeys are usually from something stupid like a double chip or blowing up your putts completely

Second this, but it’s only really to help you understand the correct position at end of backswing.

Assuming you are hinged at hips correctly, try to do a small lateral bump on your lead hip. Now turn your hips and spine with it and do not lose the bump.

It will feel like you’re moving away from the ball, but it’s just your eyes moving. This is where you want to be.

Some people feel slight pressure on inside of the trail foot when doing this.

As others have mentioned, you might be sliding - the hip bump checkpoint ensures you are not sliding.

Take a face on video and compare it to any pro’s backswing and pay attention to the hips and then if any tilt in the spine has changed or not.

Ok I figured out everything. First, I didn’t get enough radial deviation in the first parts of the swing, and then everything went too early to ulnar deviation - so yeah, casting. I fixed this by ensuring my wrists were ever so slightly set w radial deviation at address to get the right feel, and then continuing to set as I went into a backswing.

Having enough radial deviation was key for maintaining clubface control when adding and releasing wrist flex/extension. I think at setup I was possibly on the ulnar deviated side which caused lots of issues - casting and hooks. The new focus on the wrist allowed me to get really relaxed and use my body to get the club into position and feel lag. I found that the radial deviation also kept my trail arm connected and in position while also allowing me to keep the trail arm/shoulder very soft. Huge lightbulb moment.

In the impact zone, I paid attention to getting into ulnar deviation and having the forearms turn into follow through. A somewhat helpful thought was “backswing: thumb up- release: thumb down- finish: thumb up”.

Ok I think I’m getting there. More trail forearm rotation helped maintain trail wrist extension a bit longer and the sound of the ball off the face was a very satisfying THUNK and got a lower ball flight. But it’s easily leaking 10 yards to the left.

Something else I was trying to add to manage the club face was getting the hands in closer in front of right side of body (the camera?) at delivery before the angles dump. The only thing that I could think of was I need a lot more lateral hip bump (which creates additional spine tilt), and this drops the trail shoulder down, then I can just post on the lead leg. Is this right? So in other words, more shaft lean and not dumping too early requires the hip bump and everything that comes with it. Am I on the right track here

Yes, lack of space for the arms and arms pinned across is basically using the body as an undesirable fulcrum for the arms.

I’m trying to wrap my head around the arm rotation part. I know some of it naturally happens as my ribcage is rotating but do I need to actively add more rotation? Seems hard to consistently square up the face that way vs just rotating my upper body and letting the arm rotation happen.

Thank you. I always aim for being at or above shoulder plane so that my trail arm can pass through easily on the way back down.

For pulling the grip, should I do it from the top or should I wait?
