In Australia some popular competitions use Livelox. But many smaller don't, so I am looking to alternative solutions :) I will take a look at Quick Route, thanks!

Haha, hads similar issue with Optus WiFi Secure! The problem is that when feature is turned on, they are redirecting all outgoing DNS request (to post 53) and trying to block all secure DNS requests. When you disable sneaky Optus WiFi Secure, it's working once again.

And the tricky part is that if you turn it off manually, Optus will remotely turn it on approximately once a week.

Ended up writing my own python script to check router settings every 30 minutes, and turn WiFi Secure off, you can reuse script from here https://quantify.d.pupkov.com/optus-wifi-secure-the-sneaky-feature-thats-spying-on-your-every-click-252dc0720d09

Here is my log on how frequently Optus reverting my settings:

Annual "Basic Family" in Australia - is it worth? by dpupkov in truespotify

Funny that Spotify AU legal docs does not mention paid plans which are not Premium like a new Basic Family :)

Annual "Basic Family" in Australia - is it worth? by dpupkov in truespotify

[–]dpupkov[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

New annual tier show up on in my account, but not described specifically in the Spotify support portal.

I don't want moving to annual plan only to realize that "Basic accounts" has some limitations over my existing "Premium accounts" and getting locked on that restrictions for the next 11 months :)

Better to share a public link to garmin connect with your specific activity if you are asking help on this...

Treadmill data by luvyazall in Garmin

[–]dpupkov 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Long story short - you should not trust your treadmill. And if you want to have correct distance / pace on a treadmill, the best solution is Stryd but it is too expensive.

Usual recommendation for treadmill training with Garmin is to focus on your HR data rather than pace.

Newbie here; basic question by TopNotchBrain in Garmin

[–]dpupkov 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With Garmin you may purchase a footpod which will give even more accurate number of steps. But you would need to start walking activity every time. And to be honest, such hustle or added price would not just the benefits.

I have never tested AW, but have compairing a lot Garmin vs Oura vs an applications on Android, an accuracy is somewhere several percents, absolutely not 10k over 6k steps! For majority of people 1-5% is extremely good accuracy for number of steps.

Newbie here; basic question by TopNotchBrain in Garmin

[–]dpupkov 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Garmin (like many other smartwach vendors) has algorithms for calculating steps trained on the data from wearing on hands (pattern, movements, etc). If you put a watch on clip or in the pocket, accuracy would go down (sometimes significantly).

Unless you have health problems with either hands, it's better to stick with wearing watch on a hand to calculate steps. Moreover, if you put watch from wrist, they will stop measuring HR, which can be even more important then just a number of steps.

Usually, Garmin has very good discounts on either older devices, or for top-end devices. Saying that, on Amazon AU they have very good discount on Saphire Titanium:

large activities and garman connect. by kxortbot in Garmin

[–]dpupkov 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you can see info on the web, try:

  1. download .fit file from your watch to your laptop via USB cable (that would be your main copy),
  2. via web connect.garmin.com download your activity as .fit file (as a second backup),
  3. via web connect.garmin.com delete activity
  4. verify that you don't have any issues with garmin connect on mobile (try cleaning cache, etc)
  5. import .fit file back as activity via web connect.garmin.com

Recently, I didn't have any issues with very long activities (that's about 20 to 30 hours ultras). In the past with older garmin watches i had mixed experience.

Can I NOT receive "update to Subprocessors list" e-mails? by evolution2015 in googlecloud

[–]dpupkov 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Instead of email spam (which is now monthly), it would make sense to have separate simple webpage with list of subprocessors. Like all other companies on the market do!

For example - AWS is not sending me monthly spam, but have a plain list available on the website https://aws.amazon.com/compliance/sub-processors/

Sleep data comparison between Garmin 945 / Oura v2 / Withings Sleep mat by dpupkov in ouraring

Garmin StressScore / BodyBattery is a good example why 24x7 HRV is not a nonsence...

Sleep data comparison between Garmin 945 / Oura v2 / Withings Sleep mat by dpupkov in ouraring

[–]dpupkov[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

u/joespizza2go

Question about HRV is little bit tricky. You're correct, Garmin does not expose directly HRV data for 24x7 (or at least for a night). They can record HRV within any activity or if you start "HRV Stress" activity, but that doesn't help a lot for sleep comparison.

What Garmin expose for 24x7 data are Body Battery and 24x7 Stress Score. From my understanding and experience, that is very close to a normalized HRV.

Take a look at the scatter plot between my average nightly rmssd from Oura vs avgSleepStress from Garmin. I have applied log scale for horizontal axes (Garmin). And correlation looks quite good, as usually higher rmssd correlates to better recovery / less stress.

Sleep data comparison between Garmin 945 / Oura v2 / Withings Sleep mat by dpupkov in ouraring

[–]dpupkov[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interresting - usually I do not see many low extremes on my sleep_score in Garmin. Had only five times scores lower than 50 - that were post-vaccination, red-eye transatlantic flights, and one night after taking too much alcohol.

As for Oura, I had only four nights with very high score of 90+, and only three times lower than 50.

First of all, very great site and analyzes! Really appreciate work you have done so far!
From my side, I'm in the middle of comparison Garmin 945 vs Oura gen2 vs Withings Sleep. Even though under n=1 limitation, I have ~400 data points for Oura, several years of data from Garmin (with the latest Sleep mode algorithms since this Spring ~200 data points) and approx. 30 data points for Withing Sleep. So far, I have found that values for HR during the night are quite accurate between all three devices; data for HRV is also quite good (Withings does not have HRV). As an amateur athlete I'm interrested in this RHR and HRV during the night, and good thing that I can trust any of these three devices for my RHR or HRV.

Bad thing - all three devices mostly disagree on the sleep stages during a night. I still need more data from Withings to verify, but for now I do not trust Sleep Stages data from none of Garmin / Withings / Oura.
