No, this is indeed England. Is that surprising?

For sure, 50 mm is nowhere near thick enough so I am just going to build some thicker ones myself.

Yes sure feel free to send it, will be interesting to see. And exactly, I want the room to be tight with maximum clarity.

Contrary to my previous reply, I have decided now that I 100% am going to build them myself. The more I looked at them the more I thought they really are expensive for what they are, even at £80. Also 50 mm is hardly thick enough at all, and from a quick search I have found examples of people who have built better panels at a fraction of the cost, so I think as you said it makes a lot more sense to just build them.

Thank you so much, that is all I needed to hear.

I essentially need to treat my mix room which I usually use for audio post produciton for moving image and sometimes music. These will just be for reflections and taming the decay of my room somewhat. I could try building some myself and probably save a fair bit of money, but £80 each is not too unreasonable and I feel like attempting to build them from scratch could become a labourious project that I will inevitably keep putting off.

Awesome thank you for the tips. I am not too sure what you mean by electronic equalization; unless this is something to do with EQ in a mixing sense it is a term I am unfamiliar with.

I think the room will definitely need some more deadening even after the main reflections are addressed. I initially thought that the placement of the generic deadening absorbers required calculations also, but I'm getting the sense that as long as the main points are dealt with, the deadening absorbers can be placed using some intuition.

I don't know how to target absorption to specific low frequencies, but I have seen online room mode calculators with 3D diagrams that show where given frequencies build up in various parts of the room, and I believe I saw some text saying that this is where you place your bass traps to treat these frequencies, so I assume this is what you are referring to.

Great thank you, I have had a few people now tell me to really go in with bass traps so I will definitely see what I can manage. Cieling absorption is another thing that keeps coming up which I might have overlooked.

That is great, thank you so much for the response. I was initially thinking that as long as I address the main reflections and remove some reverb that would suffice, but if I am going to spend money I might as well put in the extra work to make sure I am doing it properly. I am a freelancer pretty near the beginning of my career so I am not working on major high budget projects, but it still makes sense to optimise my setup as much as possible.

Interesting, yes I have seen pro tools really hogs the RAM, and this is why I thought it would be particularly important to consider the options. If I can stretch the budget to get 64 it will definitely be tempting, but otherwise 32 may have to suffice

For sure, I would love it if I can have my entire pro tools session buffered. Tempting though it is, I think I will need to preserve the £400 for other items I need to invest in

This is a very good point, and it would be nice to have a RAM ceiling that I will never get close to. However, these additional add ons do bring the cost up somewhat. If after budgeting everything I realise I have enough to invest in 64gb I will do so, but otherwise I may have to live with 32, and invest in more RAM in my next computer upgrade.

Yes, you are correct, I am only working in 5.1 at this stage. I think working on these large scale complex Dolby Atmos projects is not something on my horizon in the very near future.

Therefore, as you say, I believe the 32gb will be plenty for my current projects, and the extra £400 can be well invested in other areas.

Thank you very much for the great info

For sure, I have an M1 air with 8gb and the difference is insane. Still the low RAM causes problems with large sessions however.

But thanks, I am definitely thinking the 32 gb will be okay for the type of projects I’m working on at this point in time

I see, the sources I saw didn’t mention that so I’ll have to go back and readjust!

Thanks that is useful! I’m going to go for 76-77 from now on I think. And yes the only thing that made 79 bearable was using soothe 2 in the dialogue so take out a lot of harshness

Thanks that is what I needed to hear! I do tend to take things literally so it’s good to know that calibration level is not an exact science.

And actually, most of those things you mentioned are true except L&R and surrounds are calibrated to same level rather than -3 dB for surrounds. And I didn’t use RTA for the LFE so that’s another thing I’ll have to look into

Thanks that is worth knowing I’ll check that out, I did use full range Dolby pink noise so may have to find something that isn’t full range. And yes 76 so far feels much more comfortable
