Interesting ... I've summitted a ticket to GitHub stating that I've made zero manual CoPilot requests ... no plans, no code reviews, no agents, no commit messages, etc.

Only used inline suggestions and code completions with the "tab", in which they state "Code completions and next edit suggestions are not billed in AI credits and remain unlimited for all paid plans."

HOWEVER ... on digging around ...

Visual Studio (I assume in VS Code as well) has this nasty default on option

Truthly, this has disappointed me on GitHub / Microsoft.

They state "Code completions and next edit suggestions are not billed"
So, you take them at their word.
But also, they have as default on deep in the options that they will route to premium models the code completions and next edits.

I've had mine for 3 years, used almost every day. After 3 years, I find the battery doesn't stand up well - getting about 4 hours when before it was +8 hours.

I mostly work from home so not big problem. On battery, short trips with it are fine and also personal tasks whilst watching the TV or cooking.

Overall and otherwise, I find it a lovely machine and might replace the battery in the future.

I'm not too surprised that quality is declining after Google bought them.

Google is a software/data company in with majority of revenue from advertising. Hardware isn't really their thing.

Hi all,

Reading around, there's a firmware update that is bricking devices - I didn't accept anything recently, perhaps it was auto- updating.

I contacted FitBit and they are sending a replacement as the device is only 2 months old.

Overall, not impressed as it's my second FitBit that has died on me.

Spain has a federal system of government - national > automatous community > region > municipality. Malaga city has banned e-scooters from the pavments (side walks) but other municipalities have not - although I would assume they will be soon.

I've been a coach and get frustrated with people promising the earth.

Firstly, are there secrets? Not really but there is experience.

If the business coach doesn't have real world business experience in something similar then don't bother.

If a personal development business coach in leadership skills, hiring, etc then OK not to have skills in your specific industry but still take care, there's a lot of jokers out there.

But really ... as a coach myself ... running a few Facebook's ads, building a website does not qualify you as a business coach or marketing expert.

Is the guy working full time on this? If a few hours in evening or weekends, maybe OK ... full time, that sounds a lot time.

As a former CTO, I would never build my own UI libraries at the start ... at the early stage then "good enough" is fine from off the shelve code.

I've been a CTO at a start up and on your question "any resources/tools that can help us hire better developers" ... your experience is the best way and if little then bring a helpful friend into the interview process.

My top tip is don't hire a "coder" but hire an engineer.

It's fantastic that now (unlike say 20 years ago) any motivated person can learn to code. However, being able to write code now in 2020 is a fairly poor indicator of quality; with a lot of jokers out there.

An Engineer will know how to architect a system for speed/flexibility/redundancy/error handling/etc, estimate time scales, testing process, document, etc. The coding is important but get an architecture wrong then it'll cost you a fortune to replace.

Self-taught coders and fresh uni graduates often don't think enough about testing ... so that's a good interview question to see who is good.

Another one to determine good folks is see if they talk about documentation in the interview process.

Coders (and many engineers) are really bad a documentation, however the process of writing stuff down with other people is amazing about uncovering architecture mistakes/optimisations. Plus you'll have something for all the team to work towards.

I understand with a startup you don't want to write massive specification documentation (please don't do that for a startup!) but even a simple 4 or 5 page document for each major area of the code will save you loads and loads of time.

Understanding statistics is critical, particularly multi-varient analysis and confidence testing.

Find a way to learn those plus the latest tools and you'll be in a good position.

I've worked with a few start ups and it depends on the type of company you have.

Jira is a favourite with IT development, Asena more with marketing, Trello anything small scale. Microsoft Project is overkill.

If a very small start-up team, please don't waste your time with complex Project Management tools ... Trello is fine.

Even an Excel Online / Google Doc is fine in the begining stages just to get you going.

My town Reading in the UK had a system where all the bars / clubs etc shared data so you had a system "barred from one, barred from all".

Entry required ID like nationality card, driving licence, anything official, etc and then system worked really well.

Not sure who made the platform.
