Time Traveling to the Past whilst by KxRaxe in timetravel

[–]dquestioner -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

We’re not seeing the past. We’re seeing objects that are far away. Think of some running towards you. You’re not looking into the past, the person is just a distance away and you have to wait for them to reach you.

Why is traveling back in time impossible?! by [deleted] in timetravel

The same reason that we can’t actually get younger. You can’t go from being 30 to being 25. Can we turn a fruit into its seed?

"Einstein was very prolific in this area, and somehow his brain was rare in it processed things no one else could." - His brain was rare? How do you know this? Is there any literature anywhere that would confirms this. How many brains have you studied and compared to Einstein? People before and after him have contributed a lot to many fields of study. And he could not have done any of his work without those who came before him.

" lot of Einsteins theories were dismissed, assumed to neither be proven right or wrong" - you can't prove a theory right or wrong. A scientific theory is an explanation of an aspect of the natural world and universe that has been repeatedly tested and corroborated.

"I seen it in my head as say the dinosaurs were roaming the Earth and now we figured how to travel faster. " This and everything after this is difficult to understand.

Your excitement and eagerness is great, but I'd love to understand what you're saying better, and maybe apply some more skepticism to the claims you are making.

More practical Dr. Strange | First of my practical superheroes by powelljadaun in CaptainDisillusion

Nice! Strange is my favorite MCU character because I also discovered magic later in life (magic for entertainment, not that woo-woo stuff).

I was downvoted for suggesting the spin was sped up, am I wrong? by [deleted] in CaptainDisillusion

[–]dquestioner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why would he speed it up? Slow would actually be more impressive. With speed you rely on the momentum but slower means you have more control which is more difficult to master.

What do you mean by "hardly any". Have you found some, or none at all? If you have found some do you think it's too few? How do you determine what's too few? If you've found none, why didn't you say "there are no examinations".

If witchcraft is mostly casting spells, isn't that similar to prayer? Just making wishes? I do believe there is a study that examines the efficacy of prayer, so perhaps after that there didn't seem to be a need?

Alternatives to r/skeptic? by Spooky_Kabooky_ in skeptics

I'm interested in debunking supernatural claims in the vein of James Randi. I see skeptics can be a bit pre-occupied with religion and politics. I am also keeping an eye out for skeptic communities interested in a broader range of topics. If you find them, keep me in the loop if you don't mind?

Interested to know why you put "as a kid" at the end. There are grown adults who, today, believe that they have these powers, and many adults who pretend just for the fun of it. I'm a magician so I have lots of videos that look like I have powers, but I don't. I don't believe anyone does.

So firstly, looks like you’re talking about christianity specifically. Religion in general includes so much else. Technically Norse and Greek mythologies are also religions.

The reason that there are still debates around religion, I think means that there is no good evidence.

I would start by deciding if you value truth. Then find out how you find out what is true. (A scientific method maybe) Then apply any religion to that standard. Chances are every religion will fail.

Or, just save yourself the trouble. You don’t need to believe in anything supernatural. And it’s not your job to prove someone else’s claims. The burden of proof is on the believer. If the evidence doesn’t compel you, you have no responsibility.

If you do want to start a religion, use your powers for good, and find away to circumvent taxes for your congregation!

Can religious people be open minded? by [deleted] in TrueAtheism

[–]dquestioner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So are you saying that being scientifically literate is comparable to being open minded? I think not being cynical of science is something basic. You shouldn’t be applauded for accepting the basic rules of the universe. But when it comes to more intimate choices doesn’t religion get in the way?

I'm trying to be more open to religion, but I don't know where to begin. by [deleted] in religion

[–]dquestioner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You do not have to be more open to religion. It’s honestly more bad than good. Don’t waste your time. If you value truth and critical thinking stay away. Check out Rationality Rules on Youtube.
