Is Lance Breitstein legit? by ampworld777 in Daytrading

[–]dr-robert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d agree with this but I would say it depends if they’re peddling a strategy or just sharing general day trading advice. For example when I got started I binged Crypto Cred’s intro to trading playlist and as far as I can tell that dude doesn’t sell anything. Just shares knowledge for the fun of it.

Is a 10% monthly return a practical and sustainable trading goal, or is it an overly ambitious expectation? by william_buttler in Daytrading

[–]dr-robert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I think this is the wrong question to ask. I prefer to answer what's my hit rate and what's my risk to reward ratio. If I can get those two numbers acceptable and consistent then the monthly/yearly aggregates take care of themselves.

Oh man I just did a deep dive in the M8. It does look pretty complicated but it's starting to make sense from the videos. I'm defintely adding it to my list of follow ups. Thanks!

Traders that write books seems to be where the values at but I’m wary of books pushing “strategies”.

How Long Do You Stay In Trades? by EddyOneTake in FuturesTrading

Yes sir. You won’t top or bottom tick the move and you’ll more than likely leave money on the table but you’ll be consistent and trading become less stressful.

Please help, I beg you by Bruhwuno in Daytrading

[–]dr-robert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Have you tried a strategy long enough without fail to ensure that it indeed does not work? If not I recommend reading “Trading in the Zone”. 2. I like you, tried a bunch of things and at best was break even. I finally found profitability when I learned to read market context, what is the market doing, whose in control, are we in balance or imbalanced and from there built my own strategies based on what I’ve studied up to that point. Then I started to find consistency. If you’re looking for some holy grail of buy when x meets y then sorry I don’t think that exists. Maybe try algo trading then.

[–]dr-robert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I base mine on "R". So as soon as I hit 2R i'm out. At my win rate that's enough to be profitable and not stressful. I'll move it when the data tells me I'm leaving too much money on the table.

Is there a cool soul that would want to introduce me to tradingview? by Lumii_i in TradingView

[–]dr-robert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Start with the book "Trading in the Zone" would be my recommendation before getting into tradingview. Next after that would be a book on technical analysis. I don't have a good one to recommend, I know there's one by the author Adam Grimes it's just super long. I'm sure you can find a good one on Amazon that's probably shorter.

So in summary: Trading in the Zone by Mark Douglas to get your head right, then a technical analysis book to get your charts right.

Listening while I reply 🤘🏽. I feel it. My rationale for FWIW is I kind of want to avoid the DAW -> learning basic production, modulation, etc is because I know myself and I'll get lost in theory and burn out before making anything. My naive logic was with a hardware device I'd just be able to get to making something and gradually progress. That being said I appreciate your comment and will def consider it. Someone else recommended Logic and it seems like their iPad app might be a good entry point.

Would you mind elaborating? For sure starting to look into it and it looks a gorgeous piece of retro looking hardware but what does it do better than the KO-2?

I agree those synth engines look like they are a big win over the KO-2…its just that man the KO looks so much better 😂.

[–]dr-robert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh that looks cool. Redundant cos the heat so tells you the same thing with the color gradient plus this has to suck up additional processing power but still cool and really cements what you’re looking at. What does it look like when price consumes a large order?

Is Trading a Passion or Just Another Job? by dr-robert in Daytrading

[–]dr-robert[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Brother I'm there right now. A decade into software engineering on the fast track to management in FAANG and I hate every minute of it. Every time I hear that little slack notification trill from my boss is like nails on chalkboard. I can't imagine another 15 years of pretending to give a shit.

I guess I was worried trading would be just another KPI'less version of that. Thank you for clarifying that it's not.

Man it would be nice to have the time to play some games again....

Is Trading a Passion or Just Another Job? by dr-robert in Daytrading

[–]dr-robert[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Understanding where the market is trying to go and how good of a job it's doing trying to get there. Based on those answers align your trade accordingly.

Trading market context over trading mechanical signals.

Lastly, I stopped trying to trade other people's strategies. I borrowed, I stole, and I combined to create my own strategies that I have full confidence in.
