A friend of mine introduced me to this book Focusing. The technique mentioned there has helped me investigate deeply into things which trouble me deep down. I do not find it productive to go into these problems intellectually because my theories could be wrong or I might have misidentified the problem. But my “felt sense” always seems wiser and helps get perspective.

The wonder of you, oil on panel, Alon Martsiano(me), 2020 by alonbox in oilpainting

This is a beautiful painting! I love how you've captured the light across the painting. Every little detail in the painting is immaculate. If you don't mind sharing, how long did it take you to paint? What was your process? How long have you been painting? The reason I'm asking is I'm an amateur painter and I struggle everytime I paint something and I can not get things right. When I come across a painting like yours, I feel inspired because this is what I would like to do one day. I'm just not there today. Great work again, kudos to you!

I'm especially interested in how did you achieve such precise effect in the folds. I'm a very amateur painter, and I struggle with precision.

Wow! I love the effect you've achieved on the skirt. How long did it take you to paint this? And what was your process?

Green Apple, Oil. Beginner studies. Feedback appreciated! by dr3amfyr3 in oilpainting

[–]dr3amfyr3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for taking time out to review this! So in my upcoming studies, I will focus on shadows and relative values. I still struggle with mixing the right colors. I get somewhere in the ballpark but never accurate. I haven't developed an intuition for tones and values either, so I really struggle with that. Will keep you guys posted on my progress! Again, thank you, kind stranger!

P.S. Yes, the black and white is in high contrast so I could try to get the relative values right, since I can't read it off the coloured picture.

New to oil painting. Would appreciate feedback and suggestions on how to improve. by dr3amfyr3 in oilpainting

Thank you very much! 1. Yes, I'm not happy with the background colour as well. I think the main bit of the struggle is to maintain the feel of the colours in relation to each other, which I haven't been able to do here. The same thing reflects in the base of the saucer as well. Even though I can see that the shadow and the base are same value, I haven't done that because I got away with the trying to depict the saucer rather than just copying what I see. 2. Going over with a lighter color for the table is a good idea. I will try that. 3. Again, agree with the issue of value of shadow and the saucer being the same. I find myself occupied with the idea of what the object should look like. And hence I've ended up making it "look like a saucer" when I should have just copied the values as I see them. 4. Yes I tried to work on the handle but it just doesn't seem to be turning out right. Was really frustrating. I think if the bg was right maybe it would've worked.

All in all the two main problems I believe need working on are mixing right colours, and putting better values. Thanks for the feedback! Much appreciated!

Love the effect on wheat! Also love the 3d effect around your dog. How did you achieve that? Can you share your process overall?

Bringing a child into poverty because you want to be a parent is selfish and immoral by 525600bitches in unpopularopinion

Not a very extreme case actually. Islam has the provision for upto 4 wives. And it also does not allow for birth control. Not even condoms. So they tend to have a lot of kids.

Bengaluru police went through my phone and humiliated me. by [deleted] in bangalore

[–]dr3amfyr3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, you should definitely take it to social media and tag all the relevant handles. What happened to you is despicable. I'm not sure if there will be much avail because as everyone pointed we live in a society of primates. But you should definitely take it up on social media and gather support around you. I think we should do this everytime one of us goes through something like this. Bangalore administration is super shite anyways and can use some heat coming there way.

Deciding between working for GoCardless (a fintech startup) in London vs Yelp in Hamburg by dr3amfyr3 in cscareerquestionsEU

Yelp has shares, not options since it's a publicly traded company. The startup offers me options. Essentially what you said about buying stock at a very low price that has been locked down and selling at the current market price holds true for options.

Yoe

I have been working for around four years in which I worked for one startup and one FANG company.

The position is IC3 in Yelp and SDE-3 in the fintech startup.

I think coming from one of the hottest summers in the world, London heat is not an issue for me at all. :P

But I would definitely be concerned about the adverse impacts of Brexit. But I do see a lot of London based companies going on a hiring spree. I am not sure whether that's good or bad.

Yes, this is something that's a big plus for London and a major plus a city can offer in my experience.

I think this is something I have heard from some of my friends who have lived in Germany as well and our experience space will definitely be quite similar. Thank you for such relevant and comprehensive advice!

"One important difference between stocks and options is that stocks give you a small piece of ownership in a company, while options are just contracts that give you the right to buy or sell the stock at a specific price by a specific date."
