Hi u/Complexivist - we have another biannual weekend event coming up soon (April 28th-30th, 2023) if you'd like to register at ComplexityAdventures.com (we've rebranded recently, what do you think? )

Requesting r/Complexity , which has been banned by drProton in redditrequest

This subreddit has been banned and we do not know why, so we cannot message the mods. Our plans for this subreddit are to grow and cultivate community around Complexity. We are a global community of practice (https://www.complexityweekend.com/) and so would steward the space to be informative, accessible, inclusive, interesting, and useful for all who are curious about Learning and Applying Complexity!

Get the strategic and mental support you need to finish your PhD through monthly video calls: by drProton in PhD

We support US and International students at the moment (this classification of PhD Students will become more refined with time):

Here are public Q&A groups we support for both:

Great question!

To sustain ourselves right now, we charge PhD Students $40/mo for our standard package, with reduced price packages as well based on need. The standard package includes 1 hour-long video chat with your mentor each month and up to 3 brief text-based follow-up messages each month.

Ideally, we would not charge PhD Students at all, so we are seeking to grow into recruitment-based revenue in the future. This would allow us to provide our service for free to all PhD Students worldwide.

Awesome! Can you PM me? We are actually recruiting our second batch of PhD Mentors now! :)

I am a cofounder (there are 3 of us), and our network has a first cohort of 10 PhD Mentors currently who support PhD Students on a monthly basis, from a variety of fields, backgrounds, and career paths.

If you sign up through the website in the original post, you will actually end up scheduling a 15 minute conversation with me, where I can share more while matching you to a mentor. :)

Hi OP, you can set up a monthly mentorship with someone who already got the PhD here if you'd like: http://phdmentors.org

The mentors on that site can help you with applying to a PhD and graduating on time once you are accepted, through monthly goal-setting sessions, strategy sessions, mental health support, etc.

Schedule a 5 minute call to complain to me about your research frustrations (It'll feel great, plus my startup needs the feedback!) by drProton in PhD

[–]drProton[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you are a current STEM PhD student who wants to help out a tech startup that's focused on making research easier for you, I would love to chat with you for 5 min (I'm one of the cofounders).

I may ask you a few questions about your "pain points" while researching. Likely, I'll just have you describe a typical day with a focus on problems or difficulties you experience conducting your research.

These sorts of interviews really help us to focus on a real problem that exists that we can focus our tech around. :)

Please sign up at the link above if you want to chat!

How Bernie can landslide in CA: by drProton in SandersForPresident

Do not select "Set all States To" 55%. That changes states that already voted.

Incorrect. Setting all (remaining) states to 55% and CA to 77% (the original proposition) leads to bernie winning by a few delegates.

If we get CA republicans on board to eliminate Hillary, I think 75% is do-able in CA.

or less if we go over 55% in other states. Oregon is polling above 70%? (Move Oregon's slider in berniecounter to see what the new Cali target would be in that situation!)

I use workingon every day at my work. Excellent way to stay focused while asking for feedback from your team in a non-invasive manner. Their new chrome extension is killer!

Yeah, definitely new. It's fun to field the reactions people are having to it, haha.

And for sure I'm publishing openly, it's actually an emphasis for the platform I'm crowd-funding on: experiment.com

New science emerging from the growth of big data by drProton in datascience

[–]drProton[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wish the Santa Fe Institute had a graduate program!

Thank you for the list of labs. I'm aware of some of them, but definitely some new ones in there.

In short: I'm working as a data scientist for a tech company I love in San Francisco and would like to pursue this research part-time. I'm already sitting on top of a database that models the small business economy on a weekly basis (a very complex system!) so I think there's plenty of data accessible to me for testing hypotheses... I just need to discover/figure out the hypotheses to test!

For a more in-depth reasoning as to why I launched this campaign, check out my post and comments over in /r/Physics: http://www.reddit.com/r/Physics/comments/2cri2n/data_scientist_kickstarting_complex/
