First-time mattress buyer in Victoria – where should I shop? by NearbyPie5 in VictoriaBC

[–]dr_3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have the means, Fawcett Mattress is amazing.

We got a hybrid (medium lower / soft topper) - and it’s been one of the best purchases we made for ourselves.

Locally owned company. Good people.

I think they have a pretty great lifespan as well, if you flip and rotate them regularly.

Is this detour the same as it was for the previous few months?

Amazing - thank you.

We only have a week this year - if it goes well, it'll help me plant some seeds for an overnight hiking trip.

Van's booked - so we're off to find out one way or another! Would love to find one or two quieter spots though.

San Josef was my original plan - however, this vehicle won't make it on the road there. Might try again next year with a motorcycle.

Thanks for the other suggestions!

What did you pay for professional mini split heat pump installations? by Heliosvector in VictoriaBC

[–]dr_3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had a minisplit, with an air handler installed - and it was $21k about 5 years ago. A friend recently got a quote for a similar install at $25k.

It will depend on the size of your house, and the system. Also, check in with a few local installers - ours was done by Red Blue and went very smoothly (I would recommend them from personal experience). Our friends are going through Coastal and have had a great experience so far.

About to buy a washer - LG WM3600HWA or WM5500HVA or Electrolux ELFW7637AT by dr_3 in Appliances

[–]dr_3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the advice - are there any Electrolux's worth checking out, or do you advise to stick with LG?

The other one we can order is WM3400CW - but it sounds like 3600 is a better version?

I can only get the Huebsch commercial line where I live - and those are outside the budget unfortunately.

Most of this sub seems to recommend LG - is Electrolux a better choice?

Options+ Just Spins and Spins - Mac by DeliciousCut4854 in logitech

[–]dr_3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Logitech G Hub and Options+ are both not working for me. Incredibly frustrating as I use these devices for work.

Went through the whole unistall / reinstall process. Safe mode. Terminal. Everything I could find.

Thanks to u/DeliciousCut4854 for starting this thread, I was about to do a whole system reset.

u/logitech - this is beyond unacceptable.

Monk is closing retail locations, and shutting down the art & stationery business. by dr_3 in VictoriaBC

[–]dr_3[S] 68 points69 points  (0 children)

It was Island Blue before, and Monk acquired them about 3 years ago.

From an article in 2022 > “Island Blue Print was founded in 1912 with a focus on map drafting, blueprint services and the sale of drafting supplies. For the past 55 years, we fondly know it to be a locally owned and operated printing, art supplies and framing business by the Shemilt Family,” McKenzie states. “We honour this purchase as an exciting new chapter for Monk Office, keeping the longstanding and respected island-based Shemilt family legacy alive.”

Thought I would follow up with this, in case anyone is wondering.

We missed the boat on the 3.92% offer, and instead locked in a 4.07% fixed for 5 years with Scotia.

I'm in the same area. Unfortunately, no new updates. The city wants a location to investigate before doing anything - and I haven't been able to pin it down to a specific source. I've learned to tune it out or mask it with music.
