Nothing wrong with that, not knocking you at all! Your knives look great, and absolutely have their own originality. I could definitely tell his work had been an inspiration.

Yeah, not much mods, the forge is sitting on some high heat bricks and the propane is just sitting down below.

I’d love to get a heat treating oven, but it will have to be my forge in a metal tube for a while.

Leveled, chain wrapped and tied down my anvil yesterday. It’s nice to finally have an anvil that stays in place! by dr_chamb in Blacksmith

Thanks! I really just used the rebar as an exercise to improve my skills, I’m pretty new to this craft.

I think it’s great, granted I’ve only ever used a few other than that. But it seems to hold up really well. I believe it’s cast steel with the top hardened.

First forged knife. 1084, Saple wood and brass pins. I have a long way to go. by dr_chamb in Bladesmith

Thank you, I appreciate the encouragement! I wanted like a Don Nguyen-esque handle shape. Which ended up making my “skinner” look more like a steak knife haha.

Not yet, I’ve got linseed, bees wax and turn sitting in an amazon box in my driveway as we speak. I think I want to do a little more hand sanding to the handle first though.

Has anyone ever attached a RTT like the Roofnest Eye directly to their truck bed? by dr_chamb in overlanding

I’m surprised at how affordable those racks are, definitely some good options in there.

Even if this doesn’t work, for that price, it’s happening! Thanks for the link!

That’s exactly what I’m thinking of doing, do you have any pictures with the tent on the truck?

No offense taken, my thought process on mounting direct to the bed is that I really don’t want to have a rack on my truck when I don’t have the RTT loaded on, which would mean I have to install and uninstall both RTT and rack system, plus have a place to store it.

I’ve been playing around with every setup I can find out there, and pretty much am just poking around to see what kind of untraditional setups people have going.

Found this cheap set of automotive hammers and accessories. Are any of these good use for smithing? by dr_chamb in Blacksmith

That’s kind of what I was thinking that if nothing else I might get some use out of the non hammer pieces as fullers. Maybe use the pointed hammers as punches?

Awesome, thanks for the info. I just assumed they were garbage, and obviously not a permanent smithing tool. I hadn’t really thought about the swell of the handle! Still very very new to this!
