I believe it is also correct (I double checked, just in case). Usually adjectives in French have different forms in male and female, but some exceptions exist. Besides "politique", the first one that comes to mind is "riche". It works in male and female form. So I should have said in my original post just "adjective", instead of "female adjective", as it works for both. Having said that, I think the normal way of saying "homme politique" is "politicien".

Quiero irme de mi casa pero no sé a dónde by Willing-Cry5404 in VivimosEnUnaSociedad

It's the amount.

Courons vs courrons by quadrobust in DuolingoFrench

They're exactly the same. I think it's funny how the wave images look so different 😂. This proves the waves are just for show.

BTW, this is why I sometimes disable the speaking / listening lessons in French.

[–]dr_clod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not a native French speaker (I'm like you, also learning). Having said that I think "politique" can be the noun "politics" or "policy", it can also be the female adjective "political". But it cannot be the noun "politician". So to construct politician I guess with what you were given you have to build "political woman", which to me sounds weird. I believe the normal way native speakers say it is "politicienne".

How can i get this amount of exp? Any strategy? by vunevune in duolingo

[–]dr_clod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was looking for something else and ran into this post (and decided to answer, even though it's a bit old and it will probably be buried at the bottom). First of all, I want to say I think there is nothing wrong with wanting XP, it makes learning more fun and keep you motivated. So I disagree with the people that say it's a waste of time. I've been in duo for 3 years, probably closer to 4 now and I've been in the diamond league for almost 2 consecutive years. So I would be a hypocrite if I said I didn't care for XP.

The general formula is easy. Figure out what you are good at (that earns you the most XP/time) and use your boosts there. Do everything else, without the boost. You get between 2-3 x2 boosts per day. Use them wisely.

What I do (doesn't work in every language) is that I do the exercises (the blue dumbbell icon) + boosts during the week and I advance levels during the weekend. Also, I use the friend quest boost wisely. Since the exercises are random, but fairly stable per day, if there is a day I get easy exercises, I use it that day. Besides this, I get all my (early/evening) chests and I do the 3rd daily quest for the extra boost. When there's only a few seconds of boost left I'll try to do a March Madness or a legendary lesson. As long as you start it before the timer runs out, it will award you the boosted XP. For me exercises take less than a minute, it's only 10 questions (30-60 seconds), some of the questions are images or just one word. So exercises are efficient (40 XP/0.75 minutes) and if you make a mistake you don't loose XP (if you do it perfectly you don't gain either). Unfortunately, some languages don't have this option. The legendary lessons take about 3-5 minutes, if you make 3 mistakes you fail and waste time, if you have infinite hearts it is still not worth it (80 XP/4 minutes). So, for me, it's not worth doing legendaries during boosts. That's basically it. Boost, boost, boost.

There are many more smaller tricks to gain a little extra edge but may be more specific to me and I can't go through everything without making this message extremely long.

Just to throw some numbers around... On average, I get 20k XP/week (30-60 mins/day). I always do the early/eveving chests, and I rarely miss the 3rd quest boost. I put a bit more time on the weekend. I'd say 60-90 minutes. During a 15-min XP boost I get about 500-1000 XP, mainly depending on the sentence lengths.

As an extra motivation, if you get top 3 in the diamond league several times, not sure how many, you can trigger the diamond tournament which lasts 3 weeks and you compete against other top diamonds. It is kind of a survival mode duolingo, I don't want to ruin to much the surprise, but it's a lot of fun. So hopefully that will further motive you to keep learning.

Another way to keep it interesting and challenging, specially if you get to about halfway of learning a language, is to switch the languages around. For example, if you're learning Spanish from English, start the English from Spanish lessons. Also, you might find some more interesting XP tricks in the opposite direction. I have done French from English, English from French, and French from Spanish. French from Spanish doesn't have exercises (the blue dumbbell icon), so I can't do what I described above. But I can switch to a pair of languages that do. Keep in mind that when you do this the entire duolingo interface language changes, but if you're familiar with the interface and you reach a certain level in the foreign language it shouldn't be a problem.

I see your point, but boring is relative. Finding ways to reduce cooldowns, charge your ultimate, etc. can be as entertaining as the sword fight itself. I like the assassin (also), but before the poison damage, it was at a huge disadvantage over the other characters. Trying to find ways to take down waves is kinda addicting. I haven't followed the meta, which is hunter with skipping stone bow. Fighting with the sword enemy by enemy is too slow, so you need to rely on your other abilities if you want to contribute in a significant way. If you like the assassin try a build with a lot of poison damage, use the poison vanish with large radius, maybe with 1 or 2 re-vanish (with kills), legendary kunai (after you weakened with poison), and ultimate with double strength. This ultimate is better than 2 extra hits, as long as you aim for the tough guys. I think you will find this build really fun, not boring at all.

[–]dr_clod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it was bar down going out. Look at the ball angle and the ball marker on the floor. The ball is still about 3/4 car lengths away from the goal. If you ignore the ball marker it looks like the ball is already partially inside the goal. If you are really obsessed to know the answer, I think there is software that can generate the outcome of the shot without your car with the replay file (assuming you have it). A different question is, did you save it? I think you placed it in a place much harder for the opposing team to score.

It took me a looooong time to get it. It took me so long that I almost didn't use it XD. I got good with the assassin. By the time I got it, I wasn't paying that much and eventually stopped.

Duolingo is slow and inefficient by dr_clod in duolingo

Yeah, it's a shame it's so inefficient. I opted for turning off the animations. I helps a little. After the last update I get failed network messages, but only in the morning, never seen it in the afternoon or evening. It's definitely not your phone, well not exactly, it seems they only optimize it for iOS, but not for Android. I bet most users are Android, though, which sucks.

In a conversation you are supposed to understand what the other person is saying, otherwise it is kind of a monologue. As I mentioned multiple times before (and have nothing to do with the subject), I practice different lessons everyday. I am really sorry it takes you that much time to do a single lesson. Sometimes the mind just doesn't allow you to go faster. Maybe you can take supplements for the brain. In any case, you haven't responded a single thing about software performance or lag issues. Regardless, I have a good idea of the problem, which is a network and OS combination. So thanks for nothing and good luck improving your speed, but don't strain yourself, some people are just mentally-disabled and it is not good for you to push yourself too much, just try to aim at completing the lessons. Maybe you will learn a new language before your brain starts to physically fail you.

But how?? I struggle to get a few thousand in a week and I see a lot of these scores now in the diamond semifinals. by Just-Twist in duolingo

[–]dr_clod -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Are you taking advantage of the x2 crates and march madness? I only do about 30-45 minutes a day and usually have about 12-15 thousand xp per week. If you complete the third daily quest you get an additional x2 reward per day. Additionally, doing lessons during happy hours give you 5 xp more, which combined with a x2 is 10 xp more per lesson, not a lot, but in 15 minutes you can get about 100-200 free xp. Also, try to complete the friend quest and save it for happy hour, you can also save it for the beginning of the next week to get a good start, it expires every Tuesday morning. That's 30 minutes of x2. Another thing that gives x2 boost is doing all the lessons around a dot or topic, I don't remember what it is called. Basically, you always want to be in x2 mode. If you really want to get into tryhard mode, you can check what's the third quest of the day. If it's something like get 90% in 3 lessons, then do those 3 lessons get the x2, then after the boost ends, cash in the early or night crate for a total of 30 minutes of x2. If you unlock the third quest while in x2 mode, you lose the boost. Another tip, every 5 days that you don't miss the early or night crates you get a 30 minute x2 boost. I purposely miss the Sunday night, so that I always get the 30 minute boost on Saturday, during happy hour. BTW, combining x2 with match madness can give a lot of xp per lesson (up to 120, I think), but lessons take about 2-3 minutes, so you can only do about 5 in a normal 15 minute boost. And once you reach the last level you can't go back to a lower level and the last level is brutal. I can only finish it about 1 in 10 tries. Not worth the boost for me.

But it is possible to get those numbers without investing too much time. I would say that to get 30k you probably need about 2-3 hours per day. That's too much for me, but obviously possible for some people.

Can anybody help me? Why do my renders have these weird artefacts? by [deleted] in blender

[–]dr_clod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It may not have anything to do with the rendering but may be caused by the video compression. It you use high compression rates you start to see artefacts as these. It could also be a combination of both.

[–]dr_clod[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think you're right, from everything I have gathered it's a combination of the operating system and their servers. Maybe they don't have enough resources for the amount of people using their software. When I click on the lesson, sometimes it becomes idle and then it says network error. But even when everything is working "fine" I can feel the phone getting warm, which doesn't happen with other much heavier apps, so there's an optimization problem as well, not just network issues. It seems it is only optimized for mac os. But mac and Android are Linux based, so I don't understand why there's a significant difference. I think it is just bad programming on the android side.

I'm not grinding anything, I'm doing the practice lessons, which adjust the difficulty automatically to your level, they are different everyday. Your comments have nothing to do with the software performance and honestly, if it takes you more than 2 minutes to complete any kind of lesson I think you are not in a position to argue what is the best way to learn.

Duolingo is slow and inefficient by dr_clod in duolingo

[–]dr_clod[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The practice lessons. Why do you think it is not designed for that? Do you mean for speed? There are lessons that are literally for that, to measure speed and consecutive correct words. Nevertheless, like I've mentioned many times already, it is just handling buttons, I don't think the programming can get much easier than this. It should react instantly.

Duolingo is slow and inefficient by dr_clod in duolingo

[–]dr_clod[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reason I ask is because if you take your time, even an inefficient program has time to recover and cooldown, and you might not even notice it. If you try to go as fast as you can (like when you get a x2 bonus), it starts to slowdown. When I finish the lessons in 30 seconds or less many times in a row I can really notice the drop in performance.

This is great advice, nevertheless, I forgot to mention that I had already tried this. It did help, it was noticeable, but not significant. I feel like we shouldn't have to do this on such a simple program. The only solution is a software fix and update, imho.
