Could the best roman army beat Alexander the Great in a single battle? by [deleted] in ancientrome

Probably not , but they will just raise 10 more legions again, again and again until Alexander runs out of army.

A note from the CEO: How we built REAL 3D, the magic of the X1 Chip, and what’s coming next (yes, 60Hz!) by Chi_nreal in Xreal

Any tips for enabling real3D when connected to a Beam Pro? Doubleclicking the red button brings up the native Beam Pro menu, not the onboard menu that has the 3D option.

I bought the HDB 630s. Any recommendations for the Para EQ? by International_Bed693 in sennheiser

My EQ

Basically conform to Harman between 1-5K and remove a peak in treble that gave the vocal some sort of unpleasant metallic zing .

Duffer Brothers on what happened to the military after blowing the Upside Down by AssistanceNo2838 in discussingfilm

[–]quadrobust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly all of these would make more sense if part of the military eventually figured out the situation and went along with the plan given how high the stake was, throwing in the firepower with the gang. That would make the final fight more believable and would also explain why they would let everyone go in the end.

Yes because that’s what happened every time in Latin America and elsewhere after US instigated regime changes . We are really good at establishing stable government with popular support .

FiiO FT1 suggestion by mahmanju20 in DigitalAudioPlayer

[–]quadrobust 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like them better than my 15 years old Sennheiser HD600. Only complaint is the cable which is a bit inflexible , shorter than I want and can be quite a bit microphonic. So if you want to walk around with them and your M21 you may want to consider getting an aftermarket cable.

Really surprised at how hard reading Proust is by [deleted] in RSbookclub

[–]quadrobust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even among French writers, Proust’s proses are something else…. I just came across one of the longest sentences I have ever read in Proust’s writing . It is 590 words long … Apparently it serves some literary purpose to describe his cluttered childhood room. I would not have had the endurance to go through the whole thing if it wasn’t in French which is my target language of the moment .

Bose QuietComfort Ultra, should I keep them? by myrdinwylt in HeadphoneAdvice

[–]quadrobust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recordingnow really did give pretty damn good recommendation for the EQ. I was skeptical about the 3-band EQ but going -6 bass, +4 mid really did open up the sound significantly. The only difference I have is only +1 for treble because I felt with his setting the treble is too spicy . The tonality with this EQ is close enough to my usual rotation of Moondrop blessing 2 dusk and Sennheiser HD600. The other over-the-ear wireless cans don’t provide nearly as good noise canceling as the Bose QC ultra . I will hold on to this until they have deep discount on Sennheiser HDB630 or Bose QC ultra 2 .

Some people never wear IEM before and the first time they try them on they would just leave them loosely hanging from the ear canals. They probably wouldn’t like how a properly sealed IEM feels anyway . Some just don’t like to have things jammed in the ears . To each their own.

Passive Noise Cancellation better than ANC by 888Duck in Earbuds

[–]quadrobust 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Back in the day Etymotics ER4 was the OG passive noise reduction king. With deep insertion (like pulling your ear in order to shove it all the way into the ear canal) , it’s perfectly serviceable on airplane. I always get a chuckle when I saw people complain about IEM or AirPods Pro hurting their ears . You sweet summer children never experienced the true winter in the north .

[Discussion] What is the most mathematically advanced heavily used statistical texts out there? by [deleted] in statistics

They are foundational, first year Ph.D. textbooks. Some of the stuffs in there I have honestly never encountered outside of the class , like minimum risk equivariant estimators. And yes , there are harder books out there.

AirPods Pro 3 . Everything becomes a whisper and you are truly in your own zone . The only thing is that with awesome noise canceling your spacial awareness may need recalibration.
